Thank you. I appreciate your input. Can you see any reason for concern on the frame? While CarbonSteel is correct about rust in general, the areas you showed (exhaust bolt, shocks) should not concern you. Shocks wear out over time and are replaced, and the exhaust bolts are normal steel (not stainless like the rest of the exhaust). Most people are more concerned with rust on the frame welds, which could cause structural failure if neglected. Most automakers cheap out as far a corrosion protection for the parts you showed because they are not readily visible on most vehicles. Shocks are more visible on Jeeps, though, which is why the high end shock absorbers are made to look pretty and may have better protection.
Thank you. What type of protection or coating do you recommend? Have any idea of cost involved and who around my area could do this. While potentially only light rust now, it will not remain that way if not treated and/or protection applied. It all depends on how long you intend to keep the vehicle as to whether or not something should be done. Unchecked and in unfavorable environmental conditions, rust will spread and become detrimental.
You take it on the beach often? If so make sure to rinse it immediately as the salt you pickup is really nasty.Thank you. Let me add that this is a 2017 wrangler with 16000 miles on it.
Fluid film works pretty good. The only issue is it's not great if you drive on the beach or sand dunes. It tends to stay a bit sticky and the sand is drawn to it.I can't tell about the frame from the pictures you show, but there are places that will undercoat your jeep. Some people are very particular about their undercarriage, and touch things up with flat black paint. I haven't used it, but some use a product called fluid film to protect their frame. I'm considering using it on mine.
I concur with @Swagger, Fluid Film should be readily available to use otherwise, there are professional rust proofing places.I can't tell about the frame from the pictures you show, but there are places that will undercoat your jeep. I'd take care of it now while it's not bad and an easy DIY project. Lightly sand the rust where possible(I use 120 grit) and clean the areas and let it dry. Apply POR 15 brush on paint to rust areas and any other areas you want to protect. It's strong stuff...so wear gloves and put down a drop cloth. It's next next to impossible to get out of concrete.(don't ask me how I know)Thank you. What type of protection or coating do you recommend?
