What is the capacity of the rear differential with the ARB cover installed (factory Dana 44/M220)? Per the shop's advice, I'm using Lucas non-synthetic 85W140 gear oil.

I have ARB diff covers on the front and rear of my 2022 JL Rubicon that were installed by a shop. Shortly after getting this done I regeared the Jeep and have just completed my 500 mile break-in period. When I removed the dipstick at the top of the cover (and cleaned/re-inserted it all the way), I noticed the fluid level was well below the line scribed onto the dipstick. I thoroughly drained the fluid through the lower drain hole and it was only about 1.2 quarts in there. When I put new fluid in I used about 1.4 litres—a bit under the half the second bottle essentially; I wasn't scientific about it. Is that sufficient? I'm using Revolution 4.88 gears.

Please and thank you.

The same as it was before.

-diff fill-
Front: 1.31qt-1.24L
Rear: 1.83qt-1.74L

This is for the Rubicon D44s.

You're supposed to scribe the dipstick at the same level as the fill hole on the stock cover. I think it's just over an inch from the end of the stick. Basically take the stock cover, line it up side by side with the ARB and using a straight edge laid across both then mark the dipstick to the same level. Now if the shop that did the install actually did it right or not is another matter.

This was the rear, and there's no way there was 1.74 litres in there when I drained it. It was just a bit more than a quart. I didn't install the diff new cover, but the tech who did said he was careful to mark it. The mark he made on it was bout an inch and a half above the magnet at the bottom of the dipstick.

An inch and a half is a little much but not crazy. If you're getting to the end of your second bottle then you've definitely got enough in there.

I have ARB Covers and my mark is about 1" above the magnet also. I use Amsoil Signature series oil in both front and rear diff. I'm re-geared to 4.56 with Revolution Gears.
