Yep, lots of variables, for sure. I got more skid plate/crossmember strikes on a muddy trail near Hurricane Creek Road in NC yesterday than I did in a week in Moab, even though the trail wasn't nearly as hard. Of course, I had better spotters in Moab, too, so that helped.
yeah, i fall right in that "lots of variables" category too. 37s but no lift. the skids saved my jeeps life in Hot Springs ORV in Arkansas

I finally watched Lite Brite wheeling yesterday, instead of just watching Brittany. Kevin definitely takes some chances!

I do go for it, but not like Kevin 'most' of the time. Just started wheeling in May with just a bumper and winch plan, but that has grown on me as damage accumulated. 37s just are NOT going to fit in parking garages for me, and I have to go to work; 33s with a 2" net added lift are already pretty close to hitting but the 1" gain from 35s should still work. 100 pound tires from 37" don't appeal to me either should I have a puncture in terms of lifting them or cost; had to help a club member when that happened to him. Yes, many of my club have 37's, but 35 are also used (mostly JKs). Sorry, didn't plan out the tires and lift then armor - just sort of piecemealing it together as I go and learn and budget allows.

Jumped on this thread to see if Rubicons needed extra armor, and if so, how an aftermarket would work with what the factory already has on there. No, I do not have welding skills, but am willing to pay some mechanics in my club.

I’m new to this but I fall into the better to have it and not need it philosophy. I have a stock suspension rubicon 4door on 35’s And this past weekend I went on quite a few blue trails at AOAA (very rocky trails in the woods). I just put on the Artec full aluminum skid system and I also had just put on rear lower control arm skids. I hit the rear passenger lower control arm skid once and I scraped the artec skids multiple times. Oh I also have Roam frame mounted step/rails which did their job also.

On the flip side there was a guy with us that has a 2 door Rubicon completely stock and the stock skids did their job but he did get hung up on the skid cross member and had to be winched off where as my artec skid just slid across the rock.

For posterity I should note that I have installed Metalcloak's system on my 2 door, and it was relatively easy to do myself (although that one nutsert was a pain given it's size and I don't have a lift). And I've watched more LiteBrite wheeling and many others since then, and am on 35's now (AEV wheels, Nitto tires) along with that 2" net extra lift on my Rubicon.
