I gave up my 2021 392 Wrangler for a 2022 BMW M4 and while that was fun, I'm seriously considering getting a 2024 392 Wrangler. Couple of questions:

- Has the steering improved? My 2021 392 wasn't bad, but there was definitely room for improvement. I'm gonna have to take this thing on the highway a decent amount.
- In my 2021, if you were in Off Road Plus mode, it would turn off the cylinder deactivation thing. Is that no longer the case?

Thank you, all.

My 2024 392 drives very straight, surprisingly. It doesn't wander like my 2020 Jeep did. I'm not sure on the cylinder deactivation question, haven't tried it.

? — OR+ doesn’t disable MDS on my 21 (August build) ?, but many reports that it does on 22’s. Sorry, 23/4 ??‍♂

Mike, I have a probably stupid question, so please don't flame me too bad for asking! ? But, are you actually seeing the 4Cylinder Mode icon light up on your dash when you're in OffRoad+ mode? Or are you just basing that on the sound of the exhaust?

Cuz Mine drones like crazy in Offraod+ mode with loud exhaust on, but the 4 cyl light in mine never comes on when I'm in it.

My current 392 is in fact a '22, but my original '21 was exactly the same. (April 2021 build)

EDIT: Just curious because I've come to believe from reading other's posts here and on FB, that the droning noise I'm hearing is actually intentionally coming from my subwoofer and is not due to MDS.

Coming on, indicated, heard, and felt. I could only hear it in “loud” until the AWE Switchpath instal last week and hear it in the so called “quiet” mode now. Some reports indicated only XR’s disable but your Apr (I ordered Apr) build also pre XR. When I got the “XR package recalibration” after 35’s-4.56’s it was the first thing I tried. Nope- still 4cyl. I’m gonna wear out my shifter using manual shift to disable. BTW- highly recommend the AWE- “quiet” is a little louder than I would like, but on balance it sounds great and tucks up well…… maybe the “felt” is an audio delusion, it sounds like it’s shittin’ it’s britches when activated …. I don’t have bad drone so I doubt anything intentional.

Jeepless at the moment.
I think the XR steers better than the non xrs but that being said it is no different than my 2022 XR for steering. OR+ works just as before.

Can't really help as far as comparisons to any previous 392s, but I just sold an extensively modified, hybrid turbo 2018 RS3 and my wife is on her third B9 SQ5. I picked up a 2024 392 last Saturday, drove it for three days, and then drove ~500 miles from Little Rock, AR to Pensacola, FL. I am very happy with the steering feel and highway handling.

FWIW, it's also one of the most fun vehicles I've ever had (of 35) and am so far extremely happy with it..without having left pavement, yet. I actually told the dealer that I ordered it from that I was no longer interested after contemplating the cost of it, but after it showed up (4 months later) and deciding to YOLO it, I am very, very happy with it and am excited to have it as a daily when we move to NOVA this spring. It's a pretty awesome do-it-all vehicle if you don't care about mpg.

My 21 will turnoff the cylinder deactivation when in OR+ and the trans is in manual shift mode. OR+ by itself will not turn it off. I believe all are that way. (392’s)

My 2023 392XR drives pretty straight for a wrangler. Definitely tighter and straighter than the 4xe we rented. The 4-cyl mode does not come on when in OR+

I’d upgrade the suspension (e.g., shocks, springs, rear swaybar, longer mopar front LCAs) if you’re coming from an M4.

Noticeable improvement in steering and handling. Feels much more planted and stable on twisty pavement.

And lighter steering in 2H with a Tazer.

Played around with the OR+ and manual shift on my 21 392. OR+, alone, did NOT disable the 4 cyl mode. Manual shift mode disabled 4 cyl mode in normal and OR+.

In short, no, the steering has not changed and it will always drive like a solid front axle vehicle. There are mods you can install to make it more manageable, but it will never drive like a BMW.

My pre XR is presently at Jeep in an attempt to get 4cyl disable in OR+ as XR’s do. Previous XR pkg re-flash recalibrated for 35’s/4.56’s but failed MDS disable in OR+. It may require the updated ECM, to be determined. If a successful MDS disable in OR+ I will report it in the “drivability in OR+“ thread in the 392 section. ? ?

Does 2H improve mpg at all? I wouldnt think so but curious. Also whats other main benefits have you got from Tazer? I see there is a very long list that is possible.

Doubt much since the front driveshaft still turns. Steering feels lighter at lower speeds. I only want 4H auto on slick pavement; not on a trail.

My specific Tazer benefits…

2H for 392. Again, I’m too cheap to do burnouts or donuts. Rubber is expensive.
Reprogram for diff regear and bigger tires.
Change TPMS psi settings.
Swaybar disco in 2H.
Lockers in 2H/4H.
Kill TC when wheeling.
Higher rpm when winching.
Turn off ESS for my two turbos.
Can read and clear codes. My American turbo frequently throws the altitude performance limited code. Allows me to read and clear to avoid the dealer. This and ESS kill make it worth it for me.
