Removing Mopar Off Road Mirrors without scratches?

Is there a trick to get these mirrors on and off without scarring up the plastic piece between the body and the dash? I love having them on when I pull off the doors but I hate that its cutting into that piece. I understand its a Jeep but I dont want it to look like poop either lol. Thanks.

I use a nylon trim tool.

Didnt think about that. I was using that inner bracket to push it out of the way. Granted when I pull it out its a bit harder than putting it in. I just put them on for the weekend again so Ill try that when I remove them. Thanks for the idea.
