Remote start module in dash

While looking for the AUX button wires in my 21 JL, I dropped the glove box looking for the wire connections (according to the manual). I found an actual Remote Start module (because it says Remote Start on it!) that looks like it's wired in by the factory. My JL doesn't have the remote start option on the key fob.

I'm wondering if this is a module that is always installed by the factory, then they add a chip to it (it has an open port that would take something like a large SD card) when you pay for that upgrade?

Or is this an after-market upgrade and the previous owner didn't include the additional fob for the after-market system? Seems too OEM to be after-market.

Any ideas?

Yes, on some models if you buy the Connect upgrade. Mine does not have the upgrade or the "assist" button on the mirror. Already checked!

The fact that is says “remote start” on it tells me it’s aftermarket

On 2020 and up they come with the module if you have remote starts or not. All you have to do is buy the remotes and have the dealer add the sales code.

That is kind of what I was thinking. I wonder how many hundreds of dollars that would cost?? The last key fob I had replaced (luckily covered by insurance) was almost $300.

Is the last step something that can be enabled via JScan? I’ve enabled lots of features that way.

So the keys are like 350(2keys) and my dealer will add the codes for $75
