Anybody relocate this receptacle to a better location where you will not have problems if cargo shifts? Any ideas or pics?

Thanks,

Dan

I relocated mine to the front of the roll bar area because I didn’t like cargo hitting the plug. Just used a 12v plug extender cable behind the plastic. Added a plastic plug from hardware storeto fill the original hole.

Haven’t pulled the panel yet, does the 12 volt plug have a wire harness that you just unplug? I bought a marine grade 12 volt which also has a on off switch and 2 usb in a second plug with the same form factor in series. Was planning on mounting them in front under the seat belt. RicRecon when you say 12 volt extender cable can you elaborate? Thanks

I added a 12V outlet in about the same location as @RicRecon (picture below), but added a new 12V wire from the battery and left the factory outlet alone. The space behind that panel is fairly tight so not a lot of location options.

You'll note in the picture below I'm using a low profile right-angle 12V plug. That might be a solution for the original outlet location.

Nice. Did you fabricate that mount yourself or buy that somewhere? I’m trying to figure out a mount in that same location for a portable solar generator to be securely mounted.

I initially expected to cut and splice wires but ended up finding a short cable with male in one end, female mount on the other so I just securely plugged together and route the cable around the roll bar mount. Figured if that didn’t work, I would splice. I’ll try and find what I ordered off Amazon but it was easy to find on there.

Even though the installation instruction show it for the dash, the rear cargo outlet is the same

A little home garage fabrication work, folded sheet metal and attached to the fender tub with 4 stainless nutserts. Turned out rock solid; might upsize it eventually to a larger battery as there is plenty of room.

Depending on use case, I'd be tempted to use Noco jump start box I have. It's always with me, and I'd be concerned about doing any interior electrical mod perfectly. I would probably drool over the end result of the craftsman-lile work I will read bout here though. If I was convinced I could do similar, I wouldn't mention this workaround.

Ya I will do lots of research before any elec work. Will avoid splicing with finicky computers on the jeep….would rather run additional wire.

That low profile 90 degree adapter 12V adapter that @Left Field mentioned could push me over the edge. Thanks for making me buy that. If I was glamping or otherwise needed crazy amounts of power, my Noco 4250 A and Ego POWER+ Nexus Portable Power Station would be summoned. The Ego holds four lawn mower batteries. The Ego has a solar panel adapter for my solar panel. Had enough lawn mower batteries accumulated that I found myself needing it.

Not why I did it, but sliding windows locking at about every 1.5 inches could keep the pricier bits securely locked while passing the solar connector end into the interior.

Via the guards, I could keep things somewhat secure and pass the Ego solar controller through a slot.
