I do have to say, i'm also the dumbass that ordered King coilovers right before King of the Hammers, what was I thinking. I probably won't see those until 2024.

You know those racers got theirs though, lol. I knew those were gonna be awhile from the research I did before ordering, I was quoted 16-18 weeks 13 weeks ago. Somehow I have a feeling those are gonna be late also. I just want to get these upgrades done before it gets hot as hell, and also before my passenger wheel falls off.

So, I was watching a youtube video about hemi conversions (while grunting approvingly), and Americas Most Wanted 4x4 includes a track bar brace that also lets you install a JK steering box in your JL with their hemi conversion kits. They don't list it separately on their website and it requires drilling a hole in the frame, but as far as I've heard the JK steering boxes were rock solid....hmmmm.

On my Lj I swapped out the factory Mercedes box with the Dodge Durango box and had to basically do the same thing. It took all of about 10 minutes. Looking on their website the kits come with a power steering pump and reservoir also. There is a dealer down the street from one of our shops in LaPort IN that has been doing the hemi conversions and selling them on their lot. I might have to call them and see if this is the kit they are using, if so I might see if the service manager would let me stick my head in the shop when they are doing one of these to see what it all involved.

This is the video in case anyone is interested. This is proof you need a Hemi swap to fix your steering, lol.
No arguments here

So that is absolutely 100% the same thing you need to do on a 04 up TJ/Lj with the Mercedes box to bolt up a 03 down Saginaw box. I would put any money on the fact you could do that without having their track bar bracket. On a TJ you use a 1/2 hole saw to cut around the boss in the frame, you can then remove the entire boss and you need to move the hole 1/2 in the frame. After expanding the hole you attach the box with the original 3 holes, you slide the boss back in and use the bolt to hold it in place while you weld it to the outside of the frame.

I have done 6-7 on Tjs and can do it in about an hour. I am willing to bet you can use any of the existing braces also by just opening the hole and welding a washer in the proper location of the new hole.

The only issue I could see is the bolt head making contact with the spring. If you could find a grade 8 button head bolt with the proper thread and length that would solve that.

Nice. The only question now is the pump, im sure whatever bracket they use is for a hemi. It might even work fine with the electric pump, but it sure would be nice to have a belt driven unit. Ive made brackets before for belt driven accessories, its not rocket science but it sure would be nice to have a bolt on solution.

The Jk had a 3.6 so I’m thinking it’s a bolt on deal.

Thats true, a JK bracket should fit a JL as long as they didn't change the casting. We may have stumbled on a way to convert the entire JL shitty steering system to a better system without the cost of going full PSC.

Well I have sent an email out to my shops asking them to reach out to their salvage vendors and see if anyone has a pump, lines, and a box with pitman arm for a reasonable price or are willing to donate one for the cause. I will let you know if I get my hands on one.
