Ok, so my buddy re-geared my Jeep with the 4.56 rings/pinions and he said the installation went well and it drives great. Check.

BUT....it threw a code involving the ABS sensor. He put a scanner on it and it told him it was one (I think the right front) ABS sensor was bad.

So I walked him through (over the phone) re-marying the Tazer JL (I had it unmarried for the YO7 recall and did not reinstall it before taking it to him, as I had no time.) We re-set the tire size (34.87) and set the axle ratio to 4.56. He cleared the code and drove it and it threw it again.

Has anyone else experienced this? He thinks he may have inadvertently damaged the ABS sensor, even though it doesn't show any marks. He doesn't remember hitting it, but says this can happen easily as they are very sensitive.

@chevymitchell has this come up for you with JL gear swaps? Anyone else?

A lot of people have been reporting bad wheel speed sensors in the forums lately, I think they are just cheap junk. I plan on putting one front and one rear spare in my off road kit, they can be bought fairly cheap.

That's good to know. I just talked to him and think he didn't let the reboot with the Tazer JL fully complete. So he's going to do it again and then check the tire size and gear ratio settings on the Tazer to make sure they stuck. Then he'll drive it again. This time, if it throws the code, he'll go tomorrow morning and get the new sensor and install it.

I want that dang Jeep tonight! The anticipation is killing me! LOL! This was not the issue I expected, honestly. As far as the gears he said they feel great and are quiet as can be, so it sounds like a very successful install.

Do you know what those sensors cost at the dealer parts counter? He's eating that himself and I don't want him to do that. I'm going to slip whatever the cost of that is into the payment.

He reset the Tazer again and confirmed that the tire size and gear ratio settings took and are correct. But the right front wheel speed sensor threw the code again. Jeep dealerships told him they were backordered but he found one at my Jeep's dealer, so he'll get it on there in the morning and we should be good to go. He thinks he may have just tugged on it just enough to damage it, but that it also doesn't take much.

The good news: When he drove it again, it was at about 2300rpm at 70mph and he said it pulled 6th gear nicely when he accelerated to 75mph. He said 6th gear is MUCH better now. Overall he said he thought 4.56 was a great choice and improved drivability across the board. Dang, I can't wait to get my hands on it!

For about $75 I can get a Crown rear and Mopar front to keep as spares. That's cheap insurance. I searched and saw some posts of these failing, both front and rear.

It's now all good. The speed sensor was the culprit! I'm heading out to pick it up and will report back later!

Sorry Dan I didn't get back to you earlier ,sounds like everything worked out perfect though. I also saw the sensors on one of the big retailers site recently (quadrarec, morris, Northridge, one of them) in stock and around 30 bucks apiece if I remember correctly. Lol, sorry im braindead and its been a long week, my wife forced me to swap which side of the bed we sleep on after 14 years, that sh*t aint working well.

Truth be told it’s because he spent a night in the garage with those new axles  And this is his punishment

Just following orders, no reasons given, none asked for. She let me go full mid life crisis on my Jeep, I smile and nod alot now.
My wife is in yes mode right now, too, but only concerning the Jeep, dammit! ?

Hilarious, I actually asked her to take a picture of me draped across the axles like I slept there, she said "your stupid" :CWL:

Well Dan. We know there was a “yes” at least couple of times earlier based on pics of eating on sound bar. Hahaha

Yeah, many moons ago! ? Those we're the days. 9 kids, 5 pregnancies (2 sets of twins and an adopted niece). Oldest 19, youngest 10. It is a friggin zoo!
