Recalibration/Alignment Issue w/Windshield Replacement

So had my windshield replaced by Safelite last Saturday. This is the 2nd time in two years of ownership. After replacement, the tech couldn't recalibrate it and now I have two anti-collision warning lights that won't go away. They suggested I take it to the dealer to see if they could do it (even though they claim they use the same method/software as dealers). So I had my Mopar lift as well as 35s installed 1 week after ownership, never had a problem. Had windshield replaced by Safelite a year ago, no problem then. So don't understand why all of a sudden I am having these warning lights.

Took Jeep to dealership and they couldn't reset, calibrate, or whatever they do. They said they do have a "Service Bulletin" out that states the auto alignment procedure will not complete after a windshield replacement. It says that the vehicle would have to have the lift removed as well as wheels temporarily, return to stock height and stock wheels, calibrate, then lift and tires can be re-installed. IMO, this isn't an option considering I never had this issue before and paying almost $3k in labor just to get this fixed!

So my question is, anyone else with lift and 35s have the same issue when getting your windshield replaced? Inquiring minds want to know.

I am curious as to why a calibration is needed on a vehicle with a windshield that is designed to be laid flat and a cover is provided for the sensors when the windshield is down. Is there something in the different windshield that makes the sensors behave differently? It cant be that the sensor and glass have to be calibrated because the glass moved away from the sensor otherwise it would trigger every time you decided to let the windshield down. my glass repair person here in socal didn't do it on my wife's mercedes and all is good/no alarms or lights. i know safelite will not replace a windshield without it so I have found places that will replace without the cost of calibration.

Genuinely curious about what exactly makes a calibration necessary because it feels like a money grab. happy to admit if I am wrong and be educated. This would bother me if I was having the same problem as the auto highbeam feature is very convenient. Sorry to hear you are having this issue.

Safelite told me that because the glass might be a different thickness or even the glue a different thickness, they have to recalibrate it by law. I did what you did and took mine to a shop that didn't require a re-calibration instead. It's been a few months and so far no issues with my advanced safety system.

i can understand the glass thickness issue. makes sense but honestly feels like a money grab. Thanks for the explanation. Gladius nova- i am XR so it has the factory lift and 35s from factory so I dont think the height would be the cause? depending on the lift you have you might be a bit taller though.

I turned off auto braking and took it to the dealer to recalibrate. No issues since then.

I have the Mopar 2.5” lift with 35” tires.

I watched while a local glass company replaced my windshield - replaced the gorilla glass version with a standard Jeep OEM windshield. They didn't touch the sensors and no glue was used close to the sensors. It was a simple remove-and-replace as if the sensors weren't there, and no recalibration required.

It sounds like Safelite messed up the calibration during the recalibration and should fix it. The removal of the bigger tires, etc. makes no sense.

I agree. Got in touch with warranty department. They are redoing everything on Saturday. They better get it right this time. Thank God I went through my insurance company.

i got a new glass with 3rd party, no recalibrated, no problems. camero is not stick on the glass, so mostly it should be fine

Have you tried using glue to stick the Camaro to the glass?
