Yes, just adjust the striker on the driver side when opening the tailgate. Tool for it in jeep tool kit, slightly loosen and try sliding just a hair toward front of Jeep. Tighten down and retry? Fixed mine yesterday, it was squeaking and rattling because it was slightly loose, fixed it in 2 min! Good luck!

The striker adjusts? Does not look like it from the door jamb.

Yes, the rear tailgate has both a latch and a nylon slider that can easily be adjusted.

Be sure to use some blue painter's tape or similar to mark the location of the current latch and or slider position before you loosen to adjust....... this way you can get back to factory position easily should you desire to.

I have adjusted both the latch and slider on my JL.

Have gotten the tailgate where it will only make noise... a clunk, when I hit a real sharp/abrupt bump.

It was rattling all the time. I could never get a position where it absolutely never clunk... I rarely hear tail gate noise now.

Before you do any latch, slider adjusting, you might want to read this .. and do the bulb grease thing and see if it remedies your noise that sounds like a rattle:

OK. So are we talking about the door jamb on the Jeep or the hardware on the door itself? I’ve seen comments on both. I would hate to mess up the factory settings. Mine does not clunk on bumps. It bangs into the guide when I shut the tailgate. Requires a good slam to shut.

Only fool with the latch and slider on the door jam. Do not fool with latch mechanism on tail gate, itself.

Literally stumbled across this product on Amazon today, wondering if anyone's tried it to fix this?

I have a rattle on my tailgate that *sounds* like it's related to (or in the general vicinity) of the latching mechanism, so I'm thinking it's related to all of this.

Installed one today. Definitely beefs up the wiggle in the tailgate when closing but can't say if it would help with bigger than OEM tires. There's more of a solid closing sensation to the tailgate afterwards.

One note however. I'd replace the included screws as one stripped when I hand tightened it and it's going to be a chore getting it out. The OEM screws have washers that are too wide to fit into the recessed area of the new part as well.
