Good day. 2018 JLU w/ manual transmission with 2,500 miles on it.

Vehicle was very quiet until this weekend. (Temperature dropped in central NJ, not sure if that triggered something.)

I THINK I have a poor resolution to the following problem ... If I start to roll in neutral or put the car in reverse or first and start to move, there is a very healthy clattering that starts. Nothing in the rear of the vehicle, have taken out jack etc, still didn't help. I lowered the swing down window, put a folded rag over the edge of the swing gate and closed the gate. Seems like the noise is gone! I take the rag out, the vehicle starts chattering like crazy again. Put it in, seems like it is okay. Have been playing in the back, can't find anything obvious but that pressure of the rag seems to get things very quiet again. Any thoughts? I'm going to the dealer for a continued problem with a steering wheel that can't be centered. Service manager is a great guy and said that he'll work on himself. If I tell him about the rattle at the same time, he'll want to choke me. :)

Thanks so much in advance for any help! @JeepCares

I had the same thing happen after my first hard off road run. I ended up adjusting the latch hoop for the rear gate. Now it pulls the gate just enough more in to put increased pressure on the window weather stripping. Quiet now. Old JK door rattle trick.

Hello, what size spare are you using? I have had a issue with my tailgate ever since mounting a 35ā€ spare on it. Apparently so have many others, some even with the stock 33ā€ check out my post on what I ended up doing to solve the problem.

Thank you, Darlene. My dealer assured me that they will resolve this and a steering problem I am still having when I bring the vehicle in next week. Will keep you posted.

Goodness, I am not sure. I haven't changed what came with the vehicle (2018 JLU Sport S).

How did you adjust the latch hoop? I am having the same noise and trying to find a solution

Darlene, hi. The rattling did not get resolved. The dealer worked on this while also working on the steering problem which unfortunately is not resolved either; I sent you a PM on that. I will send you a PM on this as well as you offered.

Have a great Sunday!
