I have a random hanging wire down in the footwell on the passenger side I noticed today. It looks like it was taped up cause there is a piece of loose tape. It’s a plug in type termination on the wire. I know this is a long shot but any takers on where it came from and what it is for? Thanks as always everyone!

one of the aux switch wires..you need to peel the tape back to see which color it is.

Looks like one of the auxiliary wires provided you have the Aux switches. They are in two locations: 1) engine bay and 2) passenger foot well.

Do you have OEM Auxillary Switches 1-4? If so there are 4 corresponding wires in the engine compartment. Under the passenger side dash, you will have the same wires along with a battery positive wire and an ignition on wire all wrapped in a bundle with a small piece of heat shrink on the end of each wire.

EDIT: I type too slow

Ok cool. Yes I have the aux switches. I’m using 2 of them actually for my trail lights. So it must be for 1 of the other 2 I’m not using. I’ll tape it back up since I don’t need it right now.

Thanks everyone. You guys are good.

I think that might be the brake signal wire. not an Aux Switch wire. The 6 Aux Switch wires are taped as a bundle (not individually), and they come out of a harness on the other side of the footwell.
This wire was part of a bundle I think cause there is tape from a builder hanging and that’s when I noticed this wire.

So check to see if all my brake lights are coming on when I brake?

Right, but if the Aux Switch wire bundle were unwrapped, the insulation of the individual wires would be exposed.

If it's the brake signal wire, your brake lights should be fine. The brake signal wire is just an extra for a trailer.

Unwrap it and look…are you crazy?

Might be the B-15 green w white stripe brake signal. Looks familiar (of course, don't they all).

I just got a chan e to unwrap it. I kept getting sidetracked. Green. I have the trailer package. I pull my boat. Boat is in storage right now. I know end of season all my brake lights on the trailer were working. I check every so often. So is that wire extra or actually being used and it came unplugged due to the termination on it?

Looks like a bit of white stripe on the green.

Does your tow package include controller for electric brakes?
I accessed this wire for the brake signal when I installed a REDARC controller.

There is a white strip.

It does not from factory cause it’s just the factory trailer package. I have a 2020.

I looked into buying the Mopar brake controller but for some reason it is not compatible with a 2018 JLU. I chose REDARC (while the bluetooth controllers seemed appealing, I decided I wanted a button on the dash if a trailer's fishtailing, not fussing with my phone).

I installed the REDARC Tow-Pro about 1.5 years ago. REDARC docs showed which wires to connect for the trailer brakes (and where to insert a diode), from forum posts I found the green-white wire location and the most convenient ground lug.
