Sorry to revive the old thread, but the post from @Willys41 is so helpful.

I am going in to do the install of the RPMExtreme fan controller on my 19 JLUR. Of course, any job that Shane starts turns to 💩 about 5 minutes in.

Need some wisdom/knowledge/whatever from the group.

I'm at the point of unplugging the forward plug on the ECM. Sounds easy, huh? Of course not. When I pull the hinge up to turn the cams to loosen the plug, the plastic cover just pops off of the plug rather than moving the cams. I have no problem re-attaching the cover, but I cannot get the plug itself loose.

Any suggestions? Can I use some sort of penetrating oil on the slides without damaging the electronics?

Never had this problem so I don't know what to tell you other then the rubber gasket may be holding it in place. WD40 is non conducting and may help it slide out. When you get it out use some electrical conductor cleaners to clean off the oil.

I ended up using a very little bit of PB Blaster along the slides of the plug, letting that sit about 10 minutes, then re-installing the plug cover. With a little jiggling, the slides moved on the hinge and I was able to get the plug off of the ECM.

Got to the point of having the wire harness loose and uncovered. I just could not make myself start stripping/cutting on the wires. I felt over my depth of comfort. Going to try to find someone that does this for a living to install it. It's worth the money to me.

I did mine last week. I just cut all the wires as I wanted to use the heat shrink connectors with the solder in them. It wasn’t to bad.

So I just decided what the hell and did it myself. Took my time, planned out each step. Had zero issues. It took about 90 minutes from hood up to hood down.

Great job! now its just drive it like you stole it and watch what the temps do. i think you will be pleasantly surprised. It is a reactive system so you will see numbers up and down but overall the numbers will be much lower.
