I've searched, but can't find. Also email ZAuto, but couldn't get an answer... I'm sure this is widely known and documented, just hoping someone will take mercy. :)

I think I understand that... when I unmarry, I lose all "Vehicle Settings" - and when I remarry, any of those would have to be reprogrammed.

Is it true that... the Tazer will remember any "Live Menu Setting" and re-apply them when I remarry? Or does it wipe those out too?

I've kind of psyched myself out trying to learn this thing...

Thanks,

@Rhinebeck01 Thanks. Read the whole thread. Interesting stuff...

I'm still unclear on if Tazer remembers/stores the Live menu settings, and reapplies them when it's remarried. Hope I'm not being dense...

Yes, it remembers Live settings and reapplies them when you remarry.

It's only the vehicle settings (non-live functions) which get lost and need to be reconfigured every time you unmarry/remarry.

A helpful tip: Any settings you program with Jscan will stay put throughtout the unmarry/remarry process. So it can be very beneficial to program your tire settings, etc, with Jscan, and only use the Tazer for Live functions. Makes it all a seamless process whenever you have to take the tazer out and put it back in.

Is there any way to wipe out any changes I made to Live settings? Or is it a matter of just going through the menu and checking each one?

Frankly, when I first installed it, I wasn't sure what I was doing. Not sure what changes I might have made...

Thanks!!

Actually, Joe @ ZAutomotive himself is on again and off again in regard to whether it is best to unmarry the Tazer JL before you update the firmware.. His usual answer is to unmarry before a firmware update,

In past phone conversations with me, he has told me it is best to unmarry but then occasionally in internet posts he says it is no big deal if you do not.

It may be that because the past problematic Mac utility was in the mix, he'd say it was best to unmarry.

Anyway, yes, it is best to unmarry before a firmware update. Doing so is best as it lessens the chance of lets say issues.

Man that sucks, I hate having to reprogram the tazer. I would rather mow the lawn then do that.

Unmarrying/remarrying aside, can you update the firmware without unplugging/removing the Tazer?

Yes, you can.. And Joe @ ZAutomotive has mentioned you can in past forum posts, etc..

For the record, over the years, I have done many many firmware updates on Tazer JL's.
I find doing the deed is so much easier and with less chance of headaches, if I just take the unmarried Tazer JL into my office and do the update.

Updating Firmware while Tazer JL is attached to the security gateway cables:
  1. Unmarry the Tazer JL
  2. Turn the JL off and open the Driver's Door. Leave other doors and rear hatch closed.
  3. Now, wait until you see the dash turn off (you will wait about a minute or so)
  4. Attach your laptop to the Tazer JL using the USB cable that came with your Mini
  5. Laptop / sufficient battery life or is plugged into elec. (DO NOT power it off while updating firmware!)
  6. Proceed with the firmware update
  7. After the firmware is completed, have the laptop operating system, eject the attached hardware... the Tazer JL
  8. Now, disconnect the USB cable
  9. Start your JL and remarry the Tazer JL
  10. Check your Tazer JL settings .... Select features, enable/disable menu items as desired

they need to make a memory/save setting feature or a backup of file settings
so that it can then be uploaded/ ported to the new firmware once installed.

or some sort of file that can be easily edited from a laptop then uploaded to the new firmware .
kinda like anything else these days , flipper zero would be a great example , phones
but thats just my brain wanting it easy lol takes to long to enter all them settings im lazy
but i do as mentioned - jscan for most all my settings - tazer for live functions.

FYI - ZAuto has new software for Mac. (I never had any issue with the original version, but upgraded and now it looks exactly like the Winblows version.)
