Question on Mopar tailgate reinforcement

I looked around but didn't find anything that answered my question. I got a deal on a Mopar tailgate reinforcement kit. I only have 35", so the tire fits with the stock mount. I originally had a relocation kit, but the tire was so high I could barely see out the back. I was wondering if the reinforcement kit raised the spare tire location, and if so, roughly how much? I would assume it moves it up, but maybe they make you buy the relocation as well to raise it for 37"+. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

the mopar heavy duty hinge itself does not raise the mounting. if you have a plastic bumper the stock location is fine for a 35" tire but not for a 37" tire for that you will need to raise the spare tire carrier up.

I have the factory tailgate reinforcement on my XR and it fits a 37” tire without raising the mount. I have the plastic rear bumper, I just had to raise the 3Rd brake light.

That would make sense. I had to put the relocation bracket on my daughters Sahara, 35” wouldn’t fit on her stock carrier.

I think it depends on the trim. My Sport with the plastic bumper would NOT fit a 35 without a relocation bracket.

If OP is concerned about raising the height of the tire, and the 35 doesn't fit with the stock bumper, then I would recommend replacing the bumper with a bumper that does fit.

The other recommendation is to get a 3rd brake light relocation kit, because even if you don't raise the tire, you will still need to raise the 3rd brake light.
