Hi folks, recently took delivery of a 2023. The forums would lead you to believe that issues from the factory are a normal thing. Thought I’d share our experiences so others may learn from it. Upon delivery the dealer noticed the following issues (TLDR at the end).
  • Paint run on the front driver’s side door.
It was an actual pigment issue under the clear coat. The fix involves sanding down the defect and repainting with both pigment and clear.

One day I’d like to gift this Jeep to my son so repainting involved some risk I was unwilling to take for the time being. The paint run was approximately 1 inch long and 1/8 inch wide. I took it to my trusted detail shop and they were able to wet sand and buff it down so it was flush with the rest of the panel. The blemish is still there but you have to look closely to find it. I paid for this out of pocket.
  • Wiper / Hood Cowl was missing a clip thus causing the plastic to bend/warp upwards.
The dealer quickly fixed this by swapping out the part with another from the lot. Unfortunately, the service technicians marred the surface of the new cowl with what appears to be a pry bar. They also chipped the paint on the driver’s side wiper arm when trying to remove it to replace the cowl. I fixed the paint chip myself. For the time being I’m going to live with the marred cowl since it’s hard to see.
  • Scratch / dent on the muffler.
It’s hard to determine if this came from the factory or transport. My best guess would be that it was dragged across something then accidentally banged on a corner surface. For the time being I’m going to live with it.
  • Exhaust tip crooked. (Added 03/15/2023)
One of the four tips was slightly lower than the others. This was fixed by the dealer after being pointed out.

Post delivery I noticed the following issues.
  • Dent on the front lip of the hood.
It appears that it was hit with a very pointed object. I took this to my trusted PDR shop and they were able to fix the dent. The impression from the source of damage is still visible if you know where to look. I paid for this out of pocket.
  • Rear passenger side door handle not installed correctly.
The plastic trim piece that completes the actual handle was not fully seated. There was 1/8 to ¼ of an inch space between the body and trim piece. I fixed this myself and is now installed correctly.
  • The MOLLE panel on the passenger side seat had a cut in the plastic.
The cut is very small (1/8 inch diameter) so I’m going to live with it.
  • The paint quality is very poor.

Numerous debris in the sills, minor variations in pigment texture, minor defects scattered through the body and top. Going to leave as is.
Note: This was an out of state deal so taking it back to the original dealer was non-trivial. That being said, the dealer was fantastic and all of these issues are solely blamed on Stellantis. The Jeep was a custom order and I prefer the 2023 trim compared to the 2024. That made the decision of taking delivery rather interesting. This seems like a rather long list and I look forward to adding to it as I discover other issues. I pray that the bolts that matter have been secured correctly.

One other thing to note is the comparison with my 2019.
  • The 2023 doors feel noticeably lighter. To the point that they feel cheap and flimsy. Even my wife commented the first time she jumped in, “Wow, these doors feel cheap!”
  • The 2019 had no issues when taking delivery. Was I lucky?
TLDR
  • Paint run on the front driver’s side door.
  • Wiper / Hood Cowl was missing a clip thus causing the plastic to bend/warp upwards.

One would expect Mercedes-Benz quality on a vehicle priced nearly the same, huh?
It’s a Jeep, not a car. It’s supposed to be covered in mud, dust, and brush scapes. The things you noted should be fixed, but not by you. Take it to any local Jeep dealer and they’ll help get it right.
Jeep really does slap these high profit JLs together as fast as they can. Build quality and some design is generally 2nd rate, but then we go off-road and none of that matters. Good luck!

I've not found a single defect or factory issue with my 23. I've been underneath and have removed (and reinstalled) half the interior. I'm pretty observant when it comes to vehicles, I tend to find every issue pretty quickly.

Guess I got lucky or you got unlucky.

Yup, my 2018 has blistered paint on the passenger door, had a leaky axle seal, broken visors, and so many minor things I can't recall them all, and that was when it was new. But the major issue was it steered worse than about any worn out junker I've ever driven, and that's saying something. I spent a lot of money and my time fixing these things.

Like you my 2019 was flawless. Sounds like you got lucky as well.

Wow, sounds like your experience was much worse than mine.

It was bad enough that my wife refused to drive it for years after she drove part of the way home from the dealership where we purchased it. Scared the shit out of her. Finally, I convinced her that I had fixed the steering about 2 years later and she started driving it in a pinch. With all the things that I've had to fix, she calls it a lemon. She's in the market for a new vehicle for herself to replace her Flex. She said in no uncertain terms was any Jeep brand vehicle in consideration, although a GC is about the size she's looking for. I have to agree with her.

I bought a 23 built in April. Still only has about 2000 miles on it. But can’t find any flaws in it. I would say yours is not normal build. I had a 21 4xe. Evap problem. They said it would be a very long fix. As they had to change out a part at a time till they found it. After 4wks they took it back Very happy with my 23 3.6

Lucky, my 2019 was flawless too. You win some, you lose some.
