Someone didn't realize that when you take the "dry" out of "dry lake bed" you end up with... lake bed. Where the lake is below the ground surface.

Deep slick peanut butter glue that dries as hard as cement. By the time the ground dries enough to get a recovery vehicle anywhere near it, they'll need to chip it out with a pick axe.

The icing on the cake, this mud is very salty and alkaline.
Don't play in desert mud, kids!

Doubt that's coming out without some serious damage. Surely some guy with a 3/4 ton diesel truck will want to do a running slack recovery using a chain or a nylon strap with a hook sewn in each end.

Maybe it's just time to throw a road flare in it and watch all the new age hippies dance around it.

He got BURNT at Burning Man.

Have not been to Burning Man but been thru that desert and would not want to be there when it rained...

It actually doesn't take much to get buried that deep in desert mud. It's a broken up crystalized surface with deep peanut butter underneath. The deeper you go the gooier it gets. It's literally a giant lake where the water level hasn't risen to the ground surface yet.

Once you break through that surface you go nowhere but down really fast. Like breaking through the ice of a frozen lake. They probably spun the tires a lot less than you think.
