Giving people the finger for not waving back is ridiculous imo. You want to wave then wave and risk being left hanging lol. You initiated not them. I know the wave is a thing but to be insulted? I’m amazed at how many people see that as rejection. To me it’s like telling everyone you walk by with the same color shirt you're wearing ”hey you have the same shirt, hi!” and being annoyed that some wont return the joy. Theyre not obligated to return the cheery sentiment just because someone else feels the need lol. That being said, I will wave back but im not out there throwing up gang signs to every Jeep that goes by.

All I know is people who don't wave back should have their Wranglers repossessed.

Go buy a Bronco or something. Those guys see a dumpster and start waving at it thinking it is one of them... ?

It's like saying hi to a stranger to brighten their day, and not getting mad when they tell you to F-Off. Oh wait that there is those NYC folk, out west here, we do expect a wave, hi or at least a smile back. Maybe its just old fashioned courtesy I am used too. No wave, Take their Jeeps away....we all should be friendly (and most are ) to one another! ;-)

Thank God the Jeep isn't my car to drive. The amount of expectation some of you have over a silly wave is INSANE. I do not need that kind of pressure just to drive around. The idea that this is a "friendly" gesture is rapidly being replaced with the notion that is is a requirement or you are out of "the club". Count me out...

My best Jeep wave happened when I had my TJ on a trailer coming home to MD from Paragon in PA. (are they still operating?) He was in a red YJ and pulled up next to me (60 mph) when I was towing the TJ which was covered in mud and he waved his hands for me to put down my window. I was in a Ram 2500 diesel. I put down my window and he yelled "Nice Jeep!" and flashed me the peace sign!! I flashed the peace sign back to him and he laughed moved and back behind me.

My first Jeep was a YJ and I can tell you all 60mph is really scary for a YJ!

So my best Jeep wave happened when I wasn't even driving my Jeep.

It all started after WWII, and was the 2 finger that represented "V" for victory. Not sure if it necessarily had to come from the steering wheel, pretty sure it didn't matter if it was out the window. Nowadays, any wave from anywhere that can be seen by those you're waving to is an equal acknowledgement of one fellow Jeep lover to the next. I, for one, don't hesitate to throw one to our JT cousins and even other offroad built up Jeep models from any generation or model. Some of the more enthusiastic responses have been from built Cherokees from yesteryear.
JT’s always get waves from me. Hey they are family. Like you said. lol same for those elderly cherokees. We have some awesome looking cherokees in my area.

Man sometimes I’m not paying attention and people get some crazy ass waves from me. Me waving a McDonald’s fry at them or a coffee mug. I’m in my Jeep all day so I’m always multitasking at lights.

The only time I ever got really serious about a Jeep wave was the day I ran up on this odd little rolling road block in the right lane. What is that thing? It's so tiny it looks almost like a golf cart or something. It's clearly maxed out at about 45 mph. Spare tire in the rear. Bows. Canvas top. Is that what I think it is?

Yes, in fact it was the first and only time I ever saw a true Jeep's Jeep out there in the wild, rolling on a road. It was the first time I ever saw a civilian Willys Jeep anywhere, ever, and the first time I ever saw any flavor of Willys Jeep actually moving under its own power. I had previously seen a couple of done up WWII Jeeps in the wild, but parked.

Oh yeah, and every other Willys Jeep I ever saw was running on those classic bias ply WWII looking tires, but this guy was rolling on something a good bit taller and wider. Even one of the old flat fender Jeeps looks better on taller rubber. It's just a Jeep thing I guess. That thing was just BAD ASS, and it was all I could do to restrain myself from falling in behind and just stalking the guy until he stopped somewhere.

I was pretty exuberant in my wild gesticulations toward the guy when I passed him. I looked him right in the eye with a huge shit eating fan worship grin on my face. He looked less than excited to have my attention, and gave me a cold stare in return.

C'est la vie
I guess. I met my hero, and my hero basically farted in my general direction.

Anyway, I pretty much wave at all Wranglers, even if I'm driving an 18-wheeler. 87% of people never wave back. I have concluded that it's a waste of mental energy to try to follow the official Jeep Wave rules, and I just wave however, and at whomever I feel like in the moment.

As mentioned earlier about how the wave started after WWII, I'd like to think there is some truth to that story; as such that is how I wave.

A young man comes home from WWII. Buys a surplus Army Jeep as they are being shipped backed home and it's a vehicle that possibly has significant nostalgia for him. As it turns out a lot of young men did the same thing and that Army Jeep became a way of identifying those who had fought, served and returned home. As a way of recognizing each others service they gave the 2 finger "V" for victory sign which had become a common gesture between servicemen at the wars end. It is this action that is the alleged genesis of the Jeep wave. I think it is a remarkably cool story as it spawned decades of simple acknowledgment between strangers. I honor the courage and bravery of all Americans who have served with my 2 finger wave.

Funny, I had a similar McDonald's fries wave with a man and woman in a nicely built JK a couple months back. I was eating while backed into a spot near the rear entrance. Right as I was stuffing a few in my face, they rolled in and I lifted the fries container as a wave. The guy driving smiled and nodded. On their way back out, both of them lifted their fries at me with even bigger smiles. Proof that the acknowledgement matters more than wave style. :like:

My boy drove the Jeep for the first time last week. He was amazed that all of the other Jeep owners were waving to him. After a few miles he had it down like an old pro. We went over the history proper "V" for victory wave that originated from WW2. It's a lot different than his Rav4 and I think I am going to have issues with him wanting to drive it when he gets his license next month.

I've spent most of my life, up to the last few years, mostly traveling by motorcycle. A number of older fellow riders have talked about the similar origin of the motorcycle wave. That the thrill of riding on 2 wheels and that sense of brotherhood was sought after by soldiers coming back from WWI. Again, hard to distinguish fact from story, but I'll take it. And the similar 2 finger wave seem all too familiar.

Startin em young! Mikey likes it! Now you're going to have to work with him to get his own setup, before you adopt his Rav4. ?

Unfortunately, Paragon closed in 2007 and the land is now some type of cargo airport near Hazleton.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming.....;)
