Our camping rig has a lot more room. In the old days, we packed wood and had a real fire. Then old age and smoke sensitivity lead us to a propane fire pit. But I'm kind of frugal and burning a 5 gallon tank of propane every evening got to be kinda spendy. Last year we went to a Solo fire pit with the pellet ring. A bag of pellets is about 6 bucks and lasts about 3 hours in the Bonfire size. Pretty much smokeless. Comes in various sizes.
I have solo stove but it's just too big to bring in the 2dr. I've been trying to sell it for awhile but can't find anyone to buy it. I like the idea but I think I'll get more use out of a propane fire pit for camping since we have so many burn bans here.

Hmm I'm not totally against having all my fires smell like steak though..... ?
I understand that. It is just I have other ways to cook while camping. I would use the fire pit to cook with a pan on it though. I

We live out of our camper for months on end. I do not want a grease mess in my fire pit. It would be one thing if I was going home at the end of the weekend vs say going home three months from now.

All kidding aside, I usually cook on my propane grill or over a firewood fire. My intended use for this propane fire box is to use during areas in CA with fire bans and as backup when I run out of firewood. My Lavabox arrives on Saturday so I'll get to test it out camping on Sunday.

Nice. I am just about done preparing for out trip to Alaska. We might get out and camp the following weekend. I have a bud that just bought a Jeep and is going to go get a camper possible tomorrow so I am sure we may try to get out with him before we leave.

Have a great time camping with the sexiest Jeep on the internet.....

Soot is a byproduct of by design incomplete combustion to produce an orange/yellow flame; eliminating soot would result in a blue flame.
Right, but I would prefer something that is more efficient in producing heat and burns clean. Thats why I asked about and air / fuel mixer…

As far as I know, most (if not all) products currently on the market are geared toward camp fire ambiance - ergo, sooty yellow flame.

It might be possible to replace the mixer on an existing product; I'm guessing most use standard threading/fittings. Or just use a camp stove ?

My Lavabox arrived a day early! Here's what it came with. I think it's supposed to also come with a wrench to tighten the hose but I couldn't find it in the box.

My first impression is good so far. Was easy to light and get going. The ammo can lid is on pretty tight though. I thought I was going to break it when I tried to remove it. I assume that will loosen up over time. I'd like to paint the lid but that may just be more trouble than it's worth.

Here's a video of the first test. This was on a pretty low valve setting. When I turned it on full the flame was like 5 ft high.

I built one using the tacticool kit. It was super easy to build, and works great. I can go to bed without smelling like smoke.

I discovered my Lava Box won't keep a consistent flame height. I set the flame and after about 5 minutes the flame has died down and the regulator needs to get turned up again.

Anyone else experience that? I've reached out to the company to see if this is normal OR something is wrong with my regulator.

Ignik and a propane growler. Best little gear we’ve added to our kit. Wet wood? Damp out? Fire ban? Kids still want hotdogs and smores? No problem. I’m sold.

Mine does this as well. Let me know what they say about it.
