I think it's finally time for me to cave and buy a propane fire pit for my upcoming camping trip. Anyone have experience with these or opinions on which way to go?

Ignik ($180)- smaller flame but has fold out legs

TactiCool ($160 + $20 stand)- has a nice output and I saw these guys at the Pomona Overland Expo and this thing is warm. Downside is you have to buy the stand separately

Lavabox ($229) - nice output, comes with a braided hose and stand that can become a grill

Are you looking for heat, cooking, just the aesthetics?

We've used a Big Red Campfire for Stage II fire restrictions, but it's only for the atmosphere. I wouldn't try it for cooking anything besides a hotdog, or keeping warm.

That LavaBox looks like it would do all three.

Kind of all three. I don't like the green top of the Lavabox but I guess I could spray paint it.

I have the ignik+propane tank. Best purchase I’ve made for my camping trips. The flames may not be as big as a wood firepit but it gets the job done. Pro tip is to add lava rocks off of amazon to help with the flame dispersal.

Get the ceramic fire stones, they weigh almost nothing.

I went with the Lavabox because I liked the over/under grill thing better than the one you get with the Tacticool. Will report back after it arrives and I can test it.

I have the Deluxe version of the Ignik Fire Can. It comes with the grill insert so you can cook burgers, brats, etc. I really like this option as it gives you cooking ability (It does great for toasting bagels too).

I also like the ammo can style as its easier to store and pack. its enough heat for two or three but not lage enough for a bigger dire corxle. But, its a mizer on propane use so it runs forever even on a 5lb/1 gal tank
