This is great to see. I was wanting to get the Maximus 3 roof rack but couldn't figure out how I was going to mount my tent with the rack being so close to the roof. Those quick disconnects look great. How was the modification to the tent to marry those up to the clips on the rack?

Your rig is looking great. I just got my Rockslide Eng steps wired up and they are great so far.

Thanks!! No modifications to the tent were necessary at all, the quick disconnects are designed to be compatible with multiple tent designs.

this is super encouraging. Got any more details or close up pics on the tent mount rails to disconnect connection? any rattle or wiggle in the system?

Here's the only other pics I have now. I can take some more if you want something different. The three different size plates you see there are options to allow you to pick the one that fits your tent rails. The mounts lock in very tightly, and I haven't noticed any movement. It does whistle a little, but I can only hear it when the radio is completely off, so it doesn't bug me.

If our gobi ever gets here within the next 18 months, do you think these would work for a gobi rack too with a smittybilt overlander tent? That's our setup and would be nice to have the option of quick disconnecting that stuff :D

Thanks for the photos!

These should work with the Smittybilt tent, but I don't believe they will be compatible with the Gobi rack design because it doesn't use a slat system. I've never looked at a Gobi in person though, so it's possible you could use a plate on the under side of the basket to clamp the quick disconnects down. I dunno if that basket floor is rated for that kind of load dispersion though.

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to the build thread for Project Swampcat!! I'll update this thread periodically, but for the latest and greatest on the build, as well as our travelling adventures, follow me on Instagram (@swampcat_jeep) and/or Facebook (@swampcatjeep).

The overall build goal is a common one -- family overlanding/camping rig to support myself, the wife, and two littles on multi-day travels.

Please make comments/suggestions and ask questions (don't worry about hurting my feelings). I acquired lots of knowledge and experience during the years of upgrading and wheeling my JKU, but I don't know everything and intend to use this forum as a sounding board and idea generator.

Great thread. Any parts you installed you wish you would have done different?
Thanks! Sorry for the slow reply.

Well, I definitely wish I hadn't gone with that @JcrOffroad winch plate. They ended up refunding my money, but I'll never get the time back. I also just installed the JCR Vanguard full width rear bumper and Adventure Tire carrier. I have several issues with those products and their installation. Overall, I don't think I'll be ordering from JCR again unless they make some big improvements.

Not sure I would go with the Rock Hard 4x4 skid plates again, either. Maybe would do Artec or wait for GenRight.

Awesome build. I’d love to see those wheels next to stinggrey.
Thanks!!

Dunno if this will help, but my wheel color matches almost exactly the color of the grill inserts on my Jeep. You may not have the same grill insert color that I do, though.
