I believe the washer fluid shoots out of the windshield bumpers on the hood.

You are correct. These tubes in the A pillar windshield frame must channel water down from the top of the frame.

Not sure but it seems most modern SUVs and cars don't have traditional rain gutters above the doors. They have channels located more on the roof where the roof is welded to the frame. The water runs on to the windshield and not the A pillar. Jeep would have to duplicate a similar channel in the hardtop and remove the gutter. Not sure how that would be accomplished on the soft top. As others have mentioned, Jeep could incorporate a gutter in the A pillar on the windshield frame but this creates two problems. 1. Difficult to do with a folding design. How do you create a tight leak proof gutter seam? 2. Could affect aerodynamics.

I’m also wondering if drilling a diagonal hole (or two) into the gutter base from the side and then a bead of silicone might help channel the water away from the interior, and instead towards the empty space in the open door below.

I like the idea. I would drill a hole at the B pillar (just behind the front door opening) since I rather have accumulated water drip at the rear of the door than the front of it. Also a small piece of window sealer near the A pillar to help stop some water flowing forward. Hmmmm? Ok hurry up and get a JL and do all of the R&D work so we benefit! lol

And for the record, the water wasn't dripping in that video they posted. It was running in quickly. And, nobody that I know washes their Jeep, then stands there for a half hour to let the water drain off before leaving the car wash. So this IS an issue.

There will never be a Wrangler with a top that doesn't leak. Even in the future, when we have hover Jeeps, all the kids wear their jeans inside out, and you can toss a miniature pizza into an ovenmotron that instantly turns it into a big one, Jeeps will still leak.

Speaking of leaks, I saw a pic of the 3 piece hard top channel that the freedom panels sit in and I think the design is way better for keeping water out.

I want the $54,195 hardtop version (without DPF) as my daily driver in the wet Seattle area. That amount of water in the interior all winter doesn't work for me and a lot of other buyers. Will FCA allow that many lost sales?

This is just another thing that screams “buy a JK and wait!”

Disagree, Buy a JL with an improved hard top! I don't think that power top is ready for prime time. Not to mention, you're limited with removig things with that option.( I have a garage winch to go full top less whenever.)

Not to be a downer but the hard top is essentially the same as the JK, they all do this on the JK so I assume it will be same on JL. There are multiple threads if you Google it. There is even a company that make a gutter extension. The popular answer is "it is a jeep thing"

It looks the same, but is lighter, therefore easier to handle, and now more long screws. I've rarely had any issues with current model, if anything it's been more about the rubber between the doors and top that has failed.

I thought it was gimmicky in the first place new soft top does seem better and hard tops seem better, but this thing doesn't seem ready for prime time!

Doesn’t the hard top have the same drip rail and same issue? Same drip rail as the JK too.
