Just got my 2020 unlimited Rubicon three weeks ago. 300 miles on it. About a week ago I noticed this subtle noise like styrofoam rubbing together. The noise is random but never happens when the vehicle is stopped and the noise is unaffected by braking. It also seems to be more pronounced when it is a little cooler out, (below 50 degrees.) I can't seem to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from, sounds like in the back near the rear interior as my best guess. I have the sky one touch and have never removed the back side windows. They are fastened with screws and the screws appear to be tight. Anyone have any updated information on this issue?
I had the exact same issue. Went to the dealership 5x to no avail. Dealership could not fix this. Also, FCAU Corporate got involved but there is no resolution to date. This issue is prevalent with the sky one touch top. Its sad Jeep can't figure out the fix. Corporate gave me a Teflon tape but that only helped for 1 hour. Squeaks happen all day when driving unless I remove the rear quarter panel window.

The back removable windows. Take the window out. Spray the two top pins with a little WD-40. Also spray the two bottom holes where the pins fit in. finally a little dab of vaseline on each of the top pins. no squeaks last 500 miles.. will keep you posted. let me know if it works for you.

I didn't get to test the WD-40 thing. I took my fleet guy at work for a ride with me to try to pinpoint the noise but it didn't make a sound during our test drive and its about 57 degrees out. For whatever reason it has to be colder.

I had the same issue. Drive over bumps and the noise will.come from the rear quarter panel windows latch.

Sorry man... Earlier in this thread there was a link to another "fix". It was actually an old recall. I did that also and at the same time so not sure which worked. It involved where the rollbar goes into the plastic next to the sub-woofer in the trunk. It involved just trimming a little piece of plastic with a razor. Nothing major or noticeable. If i can find the link I'll paste it.

Another 2020 JLU Sahara with the Sky Roof and side pop out window panels here having the exact same problem. I just purchased this two weeks ago and the squeaking noise is driving me nuts.

This issue was reported over a year ago and they’re still having the same issue with JLs rolling off the dealers lots and no formal response to fixing the issue? That’s terrible.

I have a 7 year old daughter who sits in the back row and I asked her where the squeak was coming from and she pointed to the driver’s side rear pop out window. I removed the window from the JL and took a drive and confirmed the squeak went away when the window was removed. Those dam metal on metal pins does appear to be the problem.

Thank god for the this forum and it’s members. I’m going to order the tape solution from Amazon and cross my fingers. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread to help another Jeep Owner out. Much love!

I had my 2020 Rubicon with sky roof at the dealership for this last week. They told me they researched it in their system and they did the tape fix. It worked, not a squeak since. I'm was skeptical that they could actually fix it but it appears to have worked. Not sure exactly what kind of tape they used.

I have a 2020 Recon with the sky one touch that I picked up a few wks ago. I had already read up on issues with the sky one touch so bought the tape ahead of time. To my surprise when I went to install the tape it was already installed. Not sure if the dealer did it, or if it came from the factory that way, but it was there on both sides.

I have not had a single issue with noises from the rear windows (knock on wood)

Are you putting the tape directly over the hole on top where the pin inserts? Does this break the tape?

We tried the tape and that only worked for one hour. It's really unfortunate that Jeep knows about this issue but has yet to come out with a permanent solution after 24 months. Unacceptable!

So...

Clicks and random noises drive me absolutely crazy...I have one emanating from the driver's side removable quarter rear window. It sounds like styrofoam cups rubbing together and it's not based on rough roads. It goes away when the window is taken out, and for a few minutes when it's re-installed.

Anyone else with a similar situation or have any insight as to how to stop it from making noise?

Thanks!
Chris
I use a silicone based lubricant but Vaseline works just fine. I use it every time I remove and install my windows. Squeaks and sound now come from the actual hardtop itself.

After trying the tape, the noise came back. I used a spray called “liquid wrench” and worked it in the springs of the turning handle that holds the quarter panels in.

It’s been a few months and the noise has never returned. I recommend trying this method.
