POLL TIME: HORN RELOCATION

Where should I can relocate my aftermarket horn to?

  • Hidden inside the front bumper out of sight.

  • Mount them in the engine bay, between the engine and the hood, attached to the fender and frame bolt

  • Buy an aftermarket 16-in waterproof Marine horn and screwed into the hood, after coating it in black

  • Find a way to mount the 16-in waterproof marine horn underneath the vehicle so that it's noisier.

I recently ran into an issue where my aftermarket horn setup is causing issues with my AC condenser. As such my AC condenser now needs to be replaced, and I'm going to move my OEM horns to a new location. I have couple ideas, but I'm going to put it out on the floor and see what you guys think I should do, and I will go with whatever the most popular vote is. ;)

How many times do you have to TOOT your own horn before it messes something up?

I don't know? ?‍♂

This incident is one of those, never could have predicted it freak accidents. I mean I ran without my front grill for half a year, and had two other aftermarket horns on there, after my OEM horns failed and got flooded, and didn't have any issues until I installed this third aftermarket horn in the same location the other two horns were situated. Why this third horn damaged the condenser is beyond me. ?‍♂

It looks like there was a little bit of movement between the horn and the condenser, though I'm not really sure which one was doing the bumping around. But that looks to be what caused the issue. I guess I'll see once I take the condenser off and swap it out.

Thankfully it's not an expensive fix in the long run. Definitely more than I want to be spending, and definitely going to be a lot more work than I want to do for something like this. But at the same time, it'll be a fun project with my dad.

I mean I already looked up the cost if I were to have someone install it for me and do the flush for me. Close to $1,000. Or I can do it myself for under 300. Tough choice! ?

And hey, I'll learn to do something new that I've never done before, thus growing my expertise of working on vehicles. ;)

Whichever direction you go, it will definitely be unique…pictures pleas!
Only downside is it probably won't happen until March at the earliest. I got a lot of stuff going on right now and it's still a little bit too chilly out to be playing with the Jeep.

My AC is already boned, so it's not like it's going to get any worse.

Definitely will upload pictures!! ? :like:

That was actually one of the horns I was looking to replace my OEM one with at certain points. But they were just bulky and the only ones I could find were these cheap looking ones from Amazon, and the reviews just screamed low quality. I don't mind spending $30 for a horn, but not one that seems to have a 50% failure rate based on the reviews.

The ones I have now work well, they are in fact waterproof. So even if water got into the center of the mechanism, it would drain out the hole on the side.

Not sure if I'm going to buy this one eventually and stick it somewhere on the Jeep, or if I should just spend $100 extra on top of what this one costs and get a decent train horn. ? ?‍♂
