Though I don't think I will be using a snorkel maybe once or twice in the next 10 years, I plan on purchasing one as well. I will definitely be getting a mushroom cap however. Never been a fan of the RAM air intake ones. Figure the Wrangler sucks in air just fine with the hood closed, no reason a mushroom cap should impact that any differently.

I'm just going to run the low profile for cooler air quality. I have no intentions of going into mud or water that deep. On the trail my temps are running 4 - 6 degrees cooler. ?

Maybe you missed the part where the seat is not even bolted to the floor.
And if you throw kids in the bed of your truck and get in an accident you're pretty much effed too.

So I got my first State inspection coming up in November so there's just a couple things that I kind of half-assed so the cops wouldn't bother me, but wouldn't actually meet DOT standards to pass a safety check in the state of Texas.

I had shiny red paint spots on the back of my rear bumper, but they weren't actual reflectors like I need to pass state inspection. So little bit of 3M tape and some reflectors I got off Amazon.

Difference is quite noticeable.

Also too My high center third brake light though it meets height and brightness standards in the state of Texas, it does not meet lens color standards. In the state Texas it has to be a red lens with white bulbs LED noticeable from I believe 200 ft away. (Or something like that)

I reinstalled the trim piece and now it sits beautifully on the back cross beam of the Wrangler. When I do go for my inspection in November, or I think I can do it in October maybe, I will just fully remove the soft top and if they question it, I'll just tell them I sold the soft top. They inspected as it sits, so if you bring it to them without a top, and you meet all standards, they can't fail you because they suspect you're lying to them... At least in Texas, I can't speak for other states.

What do you mean? The seat base is plastic, and the screws go through the rubber mat into the plastic base. Then the rubber mat is bolted to the floor of the Wrangler... What could possibly go wrong???

I've spent enough time with the fuel can on the driver side. I've been wanting to find a way to move it to the back of the Wrangler, and now that I have the front passenger side 1.5 gallon tank there for emergencies, I feel more comfortable about running without the driver side 5 gallon tank.

So last night I removed the tank from the driver side front fender. One of the screws was spinning on the nutsert, so I had to saw it off. I don't have bolt cutters to be able to get it closer to the fender so that I can drill it out. So one of these days will have to swing by my dad's and snag on his bolt cutters. I might end up just buying myself some at Northern tool or Lowe's, whichever is cheaper, as it would be good to have some around the house when I need them.

It's kind of hard to tell from the photos but between having to cut off the screw with such a small amount of space, and the actual gas tank bouncing around on the fender itself, there's definitely a bit of damage.

As is the norm for me, I don't really care about the damage. I just don't want the aluminum there oxidizing too much. So I'm definitely going to have to seal it probably with a clear coat.

There's some mods I've been wanting to do on this front fender area that I just haven't been able to do because the fuel can has been in the way.


In other events, I got a couple things in from China that I've since installed one of them at least.

Is it burglar proof, no. But it should keep the honest people honest.

I did actually install a second China mod, but I'm not sure I'm going to keep it. It was only like $6 with shipping, so if I do toss it it's not such a big loss.

I like it a lot more than the cord that was there prior, because in an emergency situation this is extremely handy. However The door now only opens about half as far. Kind of kills the whole idea of having it there in the first place. It doesn't really affect me as much, but my wife likes to open her door further because she's shorter and it allows her to get a better footing. So I haven't installed it on the front passenger side yet and I'm not sure I'm going to. If I do keep it on my side at all, I might try and find a way to stretch it out a little bit. If anyone has any good ideas about how to stretch out some cord, let me know?

While I was here, I've been wanting to remove the rest of that cable for a while now. It's crazy that they give me the wiring harnesses for automatic locks and an automatic window when everything on my door is manual. Kind of dumb so I went through and took it apart. I wasn't able to disconnect the cable where it goes further into the door and connects to the latch itself. If I wanted to go further inside the door I was going to have to remove the window regulator, and I didn't want to get that deep at these Texas temperatures in this time of year.

I ended up leaving the panel off and just screwed the door release back in place. I figured I'll drive around like this for the rest of the week and maybe think up some cool ideas for some really stupid unnecessary mods I can put on my door before I put on the cover again in another couple months. Already I know the door handle where those two shiny metal bits in the center are would be extremely handy. Not being able to close the door without grabbing the window sill is definitely a massive inconvenience.


While I was out today, it popped into my head, why have I never tried this...???

So at least with the back window, it has the bar that the tailgate locks in place, and up top it slides into that tube. The likelihood of it coming out of either of those places sideways is pretty slim I would say. So I'm going to test drive it tomorrow to and from work and as long as I don't lose my rear window on the highway, I might keep it like this for a minute. Just gives a little extra protection to anything or anyone in the back of the vehicle. Already when I first installed it, being able to sit in that rear jump seat and have the sun not beating on the back of my head is kind of nice.


While I'm at it I guess I could show you my plans for the rear tailgate fuel tank situation I plan on doing. It's kind of cool because I can get it for $300 from eBay, and it comes with a GELG twin Jerry can Mount, and two Jerry cans, and a spout as well. The best part is, I can get it in a similar green as my Wrangler is.

The plan right now would be to install it where I currently have my neon green lexan plate. It would be something I would only put on during times I would need it. So I would have to find a way to rig it up that I can easily put it in when I'm going on a long trip or if I want to show it off at the local Jeep meet. But still be able to have it off of the vehicle while I'm running day to day errands.

Understand that installing Jerry can mount as a semi-permanent fixture, one that can be both removed and mounted easily and quickly means that the neon green acrylic here would most likely go in the trash or at least on the shelf for quite a bit of time. Which would mean when I'm not running the Jerry cans the trunk area is still extremely exposed. Something I've been meaning to do for a while is to purchase one of those metal slotted covers that replaces the plastic one on the inside of the tailgate. I've long since thrown away my plastic cover, and I hate how it seems all of the metal slotted ones on the market are either fitted with a table (which I honestly can't stand those) or the one brand I know of, wants to charge $300 for a piece of aluminum that's bent with slots. I might end up having to make my own somehow. If you know of anyone who sells something similar to what I'm talking about here that doesn't forcibly come with a tailgate table, I would be extremely interested to know. Especially if it's closer to $150. I think that would be a fairly reasonable price for something like that.
