Same problem here too, has done it since the last weekend when I drove it off the lot brand new, 2018 JLUR. Sounds like it’s not the frame, but the joint that connects the bottom part of the seat to the upper seat back. Mine doesn’t pop unless my back is against the upper seat back. Probably bring it to the dealer next week.

Make the advisor ride with you and acknowledge... Then I’m sure you will have to make the tech ride with you to hear. If he says that it’s normal then ask to drive every Jeep on the lot to see if all the seats made that noise

I was able to fix this problem on my 2018 JLUR by doing the following, you are welcome to try at your own risk.

To troubleshoot the issue, I removed the back panel from the seat and had someone rock the seat side to side until I located the noise/vibration with my hand.

Note: you may not need to remove the back of the seat to fix the problem, but I did.
  1. Remove the back of the passenger seat.
    1. Un-do the two black elastic bands from the bottom of the seat, they will be attached to two white hooks.
    2. Flip-up the flap you just unhooked, and take note the two screws on either side.
    3. Remove the two screws.
    4. Starting at the bottom with you hands placed on either side of the panel, tug gently towards you working your way up the back of the seat. The seat back should pop off with gentle force.
  2. Locate the problem area as indicated in my pictures.
    1. position some paper towels or a rag around the work area to catch the excess WD-40
    2. Apply a light amount WD-40 to the spot where the flat plate meets the cylinder.
    3. Have someone rock the seat while you are applying the WD-40, so that it works itself into the joint.
    4. You should hear the sound go away some rocking.
  3. Re-install the back of the seat, if you removed it.

UPDATE 4: Jeep still at the dealer. Another line of BS from the adviser...tells me the Jeep would be ready on Friday, I call at 2pm and he informs me that he "has a call in to his shop foreman to see if someone can get it done by 5:30 because it's the technician's regularly scheduled day off." WTF?!?! Then he proceeds to tell me that he can TRY to get it to me on Saturday, but it will be difficult. I informed him I can't pick it up on Saturday, so I'll wait to get it on Monday. But I WANT IT MONDAY, no excuses. Monday rolls around and I call at 9am...he says "let me check on it and call you back". At 12:30, I call him back. He tells me "it will be ready by 3:00." I inform him that I can't pick it up that late because I have an appointment somewhere at 2:30. I'll be stopping by the dealership at 7:30 tomorrow morning to pick it up. It BETTER be ready, or you'll be reading about me in the news!! I'm done with these jacka$$es...nothing but lies, excuses and shoddy workmanship.

On our side, we handle matters on a case by case basis. Once enough cases are made with the same concern, there are internal departments that recognizes that spike. We also have direct teams we work with to get vehicle concerns escalated as well. For now, if you're working with the dealer to get this inspected, feel free to send us a direct message with your VIN.

Thank you for the info. Sorry if I came off rude. FCA seems to take things serious now if only dealers were incentivized to take complaints just as serious.

I just dropped mine off at the dealership today for the same issue, waiting to hear what they have to say.

Do you think something is loose and just needed tightened??? I know you did not mention in your fix. Based on pics it has me thinking. How would new seat frame or track fix? That seems to be thought the fix... Is something broken??? In your case it just need grease or WD40... hmmmm

In my case it appears to be poor fitment where the seat back pivots from the base, nothing appears to be broken or loose. Greasing/lubing the joint resolved my clunking and popping sounds when turning while the seat is occupied.

Roger that. I just don’t see how the same noise you are describing would be fixed with lubing. We seem to have/had same issue. Truly feels like something loose with it “popping”... all good this was truly helpful. Thank you!
