Went out to my 2018 JL 2 door with the Taser Lite installed and upon opening the door found all the dash lights flashing and no ability to start. Turns out there was a completely dead battery. The battery measured 1.5 volts so a standard charger won't even charge it.

What I want to know is what role did the Taser play in this. Nothing was left on and in fact the Jeep won't let me leave anything on.

The Tazer was installed about 2 months ago and I didn't have a problem previously. If it wasn't in place would I have had the same result? The speedo and tach were twitching and even the wipers moved to the flashing dash lights. Is this normal without the Tazer?

Managed to charge things enough to finally unmarry the Tazer and get to a dealer but what are they going to say?

So how about these simple questions: how much power does my Tazer Lite use while installed? Does it turn itself off if the engine is off? How can I tell it's off and not draining the battery?

If you search, there’s a thread hiding somewhere that has the draw numbers... it has an insignificant draw after build 11.0.6 (if memory serves).

Follow the reboot procedure to the letter and you can’t blame Tazer. I’ve had mine connected for more than two years. UConnect, on the other hand...
Thanks for your reply and link to the prior messages. Going from a battery voltage adequate to start (12.3v. or so) to a voltage of 1.5 after 2 days of no usage scared me and I couldn't imagine anything doing that on a 2 year old JL. The only exception from stock in my case was the Tazer Lite so I want to make sure that's not the problem.

It was quite a challenge getting enough voltage to unmarry the Tazer and drive the Jeep into the dealer. I learned lot's in these forums in the process but ultimately the dealer just replaced both batteries under warranty without much explanation. I expect to reinstall the Tazer when I get a chance and will monitor voltages closely.

Carefully follow the reboot/sleep/wake directions in the Tazer manual and you’ll be fine.

These are great accessories to help you keep those batteries healthy:

Battery Tender Plus Charger and Maintainer: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00068XCQU/

Battery Tender LCD Voltage Indicator https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DJ5KE9A/

i remember doing those voltage checks, for me the Tazer did not have a draw on the battery but there were times when it never went into sleep mode so when it died and i replaced it under warranty I never got back to installing it as I honestly did not use but just a few features so I sold off a new Tazer, I wish there was a way to turn off my TPMS system without investing in a Tazer again

the voltage indicator does have a parasitic draw if left connected, I use the tender plus and have had zero issues, I normally connect it once a month for 3-4 days as it sits for about a week during that time.

My voltage displayed on the EVIC after it comes off the tender is usually 12.7 but after a day or two it goes back up to around 13.9-14.1 and stays there but I have zero issues, both batteries are approx 24 months old

There's is and it cost less.

OBD Jscan app has more features then Tazer mini - I have attached screen shot of just a few (also does live data, airbag, brakes and engine codes read /delete). You do not marry it to your car, nor need to keep it connected for any of its features.

1 car license cost $23 (app is free and can use some functions without need to purchase license)

You also need OBD bypass wires. $24

And OBD bluetooth adapter. $26

don’t mind paying $23 to license one vehicle and looks like my total investment would be under $100

Yes, it's a great tool to have for only total of $75 . Pluss you can use it on other vehicles (if you have Chysler/dodge/jeep vehicles) or just use OBD bluetooth with free check engine diagnostics on any manufacturer.

I used it to rest my airbag module (instead of paying $140 at the dealer) , changed my tire pressure warning pressure to 20psi, and calibrated spedo for larger tires.
It also have function to turn off ESS, but my Jeep ESS does not operate due to weak secondary battery (drained battery too many times with kids playing)

I was rereading the manual and apparently if you remove the sensors from the tires, it will shut off the system TPMS. Harsh. :)

I guess I don't understand why you need those ODB bypass wires. Doesn't the adaptor just plug into the ODBC port?

The 12+8 Adapter wires is bypass for Chrysler's Security Gateway Module (SGM) which limits an aftermarket scan tools to only reading DTCs and viewing data. Tazer also have bypass module that's neded for it all to work.

Wires plug into BCM above OBD2 port. Nice thing about it, when everything is plugged in, its completely out of the way and hidden.
