When picking up my Granite Crystal Metallic JLUR yesterday from the dealer, I noticed that the paint wasn't consistent in certain parts. After I pointed it out to salesperson and the service manager, we looked at the other Granites and they were the same as this. I know the dealer just received the jeep the night before and I was able to inspect it before PDI.

Anyone know why it's like that? And any other colors look like this? We didn't look at the other colors.

BTW it's only noticeable in direct sunlight.

Not sure if this helps, but on the bright whites, the grill looks yellowish white compared to the rest. That's because of the different materials. (Plastic grill vs aluminum/steel panels). Not sure if that might be the case here, but it could be if the cowl area is a different material from the body and hood and the paint is reacting differently.

Different absorption rate of the materials.. one being plastic and the other metal. They were not painted at the same time as the vehicle so different paint mix... could be that they had to ad a flex additive to the plastic piece. Combo of all in the end most likely.

Pieces could have been painted separate. Looks to me like thats what happened. Definitely dont match and wld piss me off. Jeeps paint quality is terrible as far as im concerned. I got my first jeep a new punkin sport and you can definitely see light spots and tons of orange peel. Kinda sad w all the new technology.

@wranglerguyman

Are you aware that the Bright White grill, along with the grill molding on the driver's side has been known to yellow. Quite a few forum member's, to include myself, had to have the issue dealt with under warranty. Yellowing on a Bright White, JL is not normal but a know issue.

Cowl is painted separately from the Jeep, seems the cowl got bit more paint layer allowing the flake to show more than the base

That is what the dealer said. We looked at 4 or 5 with the same color and moved it to the sunlight and all looked the same.

We compared mine to several other Granite Wanglers and they all looked the same and it was difficult to convince them it's a defect. They are speculating it's the different material reacting differently o paint.

Granite is a nice color I was considering it but could not find one with the options I wanted at the time. Curious what was the build date of your JL?

That looks way off. I have the same color and the paint match is perfect.

It's also the fenders, but it's only noticeable when the fender is directly facing you and the sunlight is directly behind. From the angle when I took the picture, if I moved half a step to the right or left, it was not noticeable, not even the cowl.

I have noticed this from other pictures i have seen on here. I just figured the pictures were causing a strange effect. I pick up my granite jeep in 2 weeks. I will take a look at the dealer.

Honestly that looks like shit. Cars are painted all the time with a mix of fiberglass and metal panels. They dont turn out like that.
