Was servicing the Metal Cloak front control arm bushings today. They were dry. When cleaning up I was sliding out under the front axle and looked up. I saw this. No drips on the ground, and no oil trail under the JL. This was not there two oil changes ago, and I do my OCs about 5,000 miles apart. For perspective, since the end of AUG I have driven this from NorCAL up to WA coast, up into BC for camping, and just came back from MN. Bought first week of June 2024 with 14 miles on it, I now have 48,007 miles. It does not sit around much.

Because all of the dealerships within 'close' distance to me suck, I'll be calling my trusted dealer that is 3.5 hours away and seeing what they want to do. I've given up on fuel getting into the oil. After a year of monitoring, and a new HPFP, it seems that my engine just likes to add 4 oz, then burn it off, the add 4 oz, burn it off, and the cycle continues. The coolant looks good and I still average 17 MPGs so no changes there.

Looks like possibly the timing chain cover gasket. Mine was replaced a couple of months ago at the dealer and around 57k miles. They also replaced the chain, gears and tensioners, all under warranty. The gasket is an RTV compound from the factory and the dealer used the same stuff.

My trusted dealer is mailing me oil dye. I'll clean up the leak area upon receipt and see if I can spot the issue.

Hi there,
I think I have the same leak. Timing cover, leaking all the way back to the oil cooler and bellhousing. Did you get it diagnosed? Already had my 2.0 apart for a leaking water pump seal... can't believe it has to come back apart at 10k miles.

Hi. No. Waiting (still) on oil dye.

I just took mine to the dealer, told them it was leaking and they fixed it. No dye or waiting.

My dealer is 3.5 hours one-way away, and they have to do the look, get approval, etc. Glad you are fixed up. What all did they do?

I dropped it off telling them it had an oil leak and showed the advisor where it was leaking. She said it would be a couple of days before they could look at it. Two days later she called and said it was the timing chain cover and would be repaired under the factory power train warranty. They wouldn't be able to work on it for about 3 days. Two days later I got a call late in the day that it was ready. When I picked it up they had replaced the timing chain, gears, tensioners and gasket. The gasket is some type of heavy duty RTV.
