Our 2018 JLR with 3.6 manual has developed an oil leak. I saw a puddle of oil in the garage yesterday so inspected today. it appears it is leaking at the front and back of the transmission. I also noticed some oil around the oil filter, so I thought maybe I just put too much oil in on the last change and it had too much pressure and it pushed it through the seals. Is that possible? I have not noticed a burning oil smell or white smoke.

Another possibility is that I had a Centerforce clutch put in a couple of thousand miles ago. Not sure how it would cause an issue though, could it?

You may have a cracked filter housing. Pull off the stuff above and check into it. Unless you really way over filled it, it won’t blow seals.
i will check that tomorrow. Thanks.

Looks more like the O-ring on the filter is leaking. Clean it all up real good, then recheck for a leak.

Pull the transmission sight plug. Check for oil in there. I Had to have my rear main seal replaced at 1500 miles on my 18 jlus 6sp. I have to admit that’s a lot of oil though for a RMS. Normal running oil pressure is 30day below 3k rpm and anything about is 60psi+ I believe

I will change the oil tomorrow and install a new filter. My concern is that there is oil around the seals (rear main seal?). If it is just the filter, I would think there would not be oil there.

Oil leaking at the filter housing fills up the engine valley and flows down over the back of the engine and transmission bell housing.
These pictures aren’t clear enough to call it one way or another. More cleaning needs to be done.

I crawled under the jeep tonight to pull the drain plug. I noticed there was oil on just one side of the rear driveshaft. There was also oil spread down the passenger side of the undercarriage. I cannot imagine a leaking seal doing that, so I believe the diagnosis of it being the filter cap o-ring was correct. The oil came out of the filter cap and soaked the sides of the engine. No apparent cracks in the filter cap. The o-ring looks like it was starting to disintegrate. This was with 2,000 miles on the oil change.

I pulled the skid plate off and will try to wash the undercarriage tomorrow to ensure it is not something else. Other than wiping it by hand, what is the best way to do that? I have used the trick of a sprinkler under the truck for 20 minutes for mud, but will it work with oil? I would not think it would.

Thanks for helping diagnose.

My dude, that O-ring is in the wrong spot.

The O-ring goes in the big wide open groove just below where yours is sitting.

You need a new O-ring.

Well, that mechanic is getting fired. Where do they find these idiots? (OP sheepishly raises his hand and admits he did it himself)

I have changed the oil on this Jeep and my JT two or three times each. I have not made that mistake before and will not make it again.

Thanks for helping out. The beer is on my next time I see you.

Well I'm glad to learn from your mistake before I get our Jeep. Cheers.
