I have been researching this for a while. There is a lot of scattered information out there so I will open it up to everyone to answer...

I have a JL 4-door Rubicon. I have installed the Metalcloak 2.5" True Dual Rate kit with the Rocksport shocks. I currently have the stock rubicon 285 tires and wheels.

On my first rock crawling trip since installing the lift (on the SlickRock trail) I found that when fully stuffed and turned hard either direction I rubbed just slightly on the front swaybar end links.

Now, I am buying tires and wheels. Tires I have chosen Goodyear Wrangler Duratrack 315/70/17's due to weight, road manners, and off-road reviews. It's the wheels that I am having a hard time with. I want to go with a 17x8.5 to keep the bead tight for low pressure wheeling. I also don't want to have a lot of tire sticking out of the Rubicon fenders. Metalcloak recommends a maximum of 4.75" backspace for rubicons for general clearances, but they don't talk about tire sizes or other mitigating options. I've also been reading about scrub radius, and am keeping an eye on that as this is also my DD, so road manners are paramount. Below are my wheel options so far...

I like the AEV Pintlers, but I think that their backset of 5.77" will rub badly.

I'm looking at the Quadratec '41 wheels. They have an backset of 5.2" which I think might be okay. I like that they won't stick out too far from the fenders and that they are light at 29lb. But, again, I'm worried about rubbing when under articulation.

My other choice is the Terraflex Nomad. These have the backset of 4.75" that Metalcloak recommends but they will also stick out over 2" from the fenders. They are also quite heavy at 37lb.

What I'm looking for is opinions on what should actually not rub or could be mitigated easily with my lift. I'm really thinking of doing the '41 wheels as they are a middle of the road offset, are light, and are cheap.

Anyone? Ideas?

On the rubicon you can get away with a bit higher backspacing vs the sport/Sahara. I have 17x9 +12 offset with mopar lift and 37s. I slightly rub the inner fenders when off roading with sway bar disconnected with my 37s. Not very bad but it does a little. -12 offset for same size wheel would stick out an inch more.
