I am using OnX and I display it on the dash vía CarPlay from my iPhone. It works well but I like high resolution maps and these have to be manually downloaded in grids about 5 miles square, which I find to be tedious.

Also, don’t forget that cellular is not the same as GPS. So, if you are in a remote part of the US without cellular you would be wise to get a separate GPS receiver that can Bluetooth to your phone such as this (regardless of which platform you choose) …

OnX is my primary offroad mapping app. I find it very useful in Utah/AZ and MX, with many trails marked, and for those that aren't, I've added myself. The GUI is a bit wonky, but it's very easy and intuitive once you get used to it.

The offline map function is great, as cell service around here is not great. I use it either through my Android Auto or with a separate tablet mounted on the dash (I use the Lenovo P11 Pro tablet - includes GPS and 8GB RAM for around $200 - great deal and fits in the 67design tablet mount easily). I prefer the tablet just because of the larger size and the ability to use the Jeep's screen for offroad pages, cameras, etc.

I tried GAIA and it worked well also. But I kept falling back to OnX. That's what I use exclusively now.

So Gaia is on the Unconnect screen? Via android auto? Or is there a way to get it as an included Unconnect feature?
Yes, it is viewable on the screen via Android Auto (or Apple Carplay). There's unfortunately no native uConnect app for Gaia (or any other mapping service, besides the built in navigation app).

But I just tried Gaia for the first time on my 8.4" screen using a wireless Android Auto adapter yesterday, and it seems to work pretty well. I paid the subscription cost ($40/year I think it was) which allows me to download offline maps for Gaia, I downloaded detailed maps for all of CA and NV which came out to about 7 GB. I'm pretty happy with it so far, based on my limited usage so far just in the city, I think it'll probably work well enough for offroad nav. Certainly better than the built in Nav app, at any rate.

You would think that a satellite based service (like Sirius) would have something to offer by now....?

I use several trail apps including onX. The only reason to get the elite version is if you want to be able to identify who owns what private property. I use that feature with onX Hunt Maps but not so much for onX Off Road.

Unless you need ownership data, just go with the Premium for $30, before discounts.

You would think so, but satellite tech hasn't really advanced much in the last couple decades.

SiriusXM still has to turn off my favorite comedy stations to free up bandwidth whenever there's a live sporting event.

Gaia can be used on any head unit that has Android Auto or Apple Carplay.... Not sure if you can load it permanently onto the U Connect screen, since it is an Android based system etc.

Yes, but I would also think Jeep would have this built in as at least an option if not standard on Rubicon/392.

Does the Bronco offer anything like that?
Maybe competition will help rectify this situation.

The funny thing is Gaia GPS is the goto app and they did not really sponsor any of the YouTubers. Now OnX is handing their app out/paying YouTubers to use their app and they are making videos about using OnX. OnX is using marketing to the masses through Youtube influencers. Kind of like how Milestar used YouTubers to influence a bunch of Jeepers to buy shit tires.

I have messed around with OnX some, but I way prefer Gaia. We travel and off road many months at a time. The fact that I can look at maps with Gaia on my laptop or phone. Do planing on the laptop or the phone and I can see the work on what ever device I am logged in on is a bonus. You can customize the information easily for downloading the type and size of your maps very easily.

The thing is with Gaia, it has a learning curve that is a little steeper than the other mapping apps. Why, well they have the most available mapping information than the other apps.
