Off Road Custom Blanket. any Interest?

I’ve purchased a lot of fabric before over a couple decades—some bolts were 54” wide—and I guess I just don’t understand how that’s 3 yards. 72” == 6’ == 2 yards. To get the hem, that would be just over 2 yards? Similarly your original size of 50x36 should be just over 1 yard with the hem. I’ve always purchased fabric by the linear yard of the bolt (multiple companies/manufacturers, not Joann’s or Walmart); is this company selling it differently? From your "just over 3 yards" it looks like they're selling it by the square yard similarly to carpet? (1.583 * 2 ~= 3 sq-yrd)

Either way, you’re adding value to the raw fabric with the cutting, hemming, and embroidering, so I think the price is fair.

I might be dumb. I was figuring it like carpet apparently. length x width. I am not trying to create a bunch of waste.

I just times 36x36 to get how many inches were in a yard. 36x36=1296

Then I did a took the size of 72x72 = 5184. Then divide 5184/1296 = 4 yards. Mind you I willing admit I am no genius at this. Now my wife that is helping me is. She has a $8000 sewing machine that she knows how to use, and she will be over seeing the process to ensure a quality product is completed. She makes incredible quilts, makes cloths, bags you name it. She is crafty and has been sewing for decades. She makes things like these. She has been sewing for decades and does many things by hand at times. She even travel with a sewing machine at tiles The first two she did while we were traveling in the southwest.

I'd certainly be interested -- using a truck stop "Poly-Blend" drug-rug style blanket I picked up for 10 dollars, and already on my second (maybe third?). Not exactly the most durable, isn't fast drying, and soaks up any fluid that even gets near it.

You could make a half size one for days I'm on the dual-sport or Dirt Orca, and I'd probably get that too/

I’m definitely interested. I carry a tarp and a movers blanket. Your idea seems like a better solution. Just brainstorming. Some folks might want it rolled up like a shooters mat once it’s used and dirty. But that may be unnecessarily complex and costly. Velcro straps might be the better way. I’m probably over thinking it.

It should be noted my blanket is 71x43 It was made from the same material, but it was material that was left over from making custom cushion for our camper. So the ones I am making in general would pack up even smaller. Cup for scale.

I'm not in the market for this at the moment but I think these are pretty cool. I like the light tan color since it seems like it's a good background for tools to stand out against.

I’ve changed enough tires in mud or snow for me to want one. That alone makes it worth it without even thinking about repairs.

I’ve been packing a couple of HF $5.00 moving blankets in my rig for years…. But this is a cool idea, and from the sounds of it a quality product….. I think it’s worth the money, and I’m not ruling out getting one…..

So got the first set of orders out. It was a process of learning as I go. There is a learning curve for sure. $70 including shipping is not enough. I figured I would be able to get it in the cheap box to ship for about $10, nope, It was between $16 and $19 dollars to ship. I almost didn't really cover cost. Probably didn't if I added in fuel to go get material and to go to the post office. I think I am at or about $73 per blanket.

Mind you I am just looking to get rich doing this. But there has to be a little bit in it. The price will go up to $80 just so I am not doing it for free.

Here are a couple pics of some that I shipped yesterday.

If you wanted a graphic, it would be what ever the cost to buy the pattern is. The lettering is built into the machine. The Jeep graphic was like $5 off Etsy.

I did not know that I could put a Jeep on it until I was asked and looked into it. Know that I know how to do it. It is pretty easy. The Jeep was like 13,000 or so stitches and took about 25 minutes to sew it into the blanket. I can make the machine sew faster, but I am pretty conservative on pushing the machine.

The biggest thing is you can just shake or wipe the mud off and they don't really hold water so they don't end up stinking.
