I was coming home from the post office in a heavy downpour today and made a right hand turn into my sub-division. First I got the Electronic Stability Control issue, along with the Autostart light, ignition light and check engine light. I drove about 1 mile home and shut it off. I turned it back on and everything was gone except for the check engine light. It is reading an P0336 crankshaft position sensor. I am going to drive it around some more but wondering if the heavy rains caused a "blip".

That isn’t the description of the fault. What was the rest of the wording?

The initial fault that flashed on the screen was service electronic stability control. I didn't take a picture but have seen others post pictures with the same warning such as here: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...stability-control-start-stop-not-ready.76009/. I didn't see a message about the auto-start except the "A" light come on and the ignition light that sits above the temperature gauge. As for the P0336, crank shaft position sensor, I would have to go back to the OBD reader to get the full description. I cleared the temporary fault but I believe those stay permanent unless cleared by the dealer. I read the P0336 after I got home and turned the vehicle off and back on. Everything but the P0336 was gone after shutting off and back on. I drove 15 miles last night and this morning, after clearing the temporary codes, and so far no reoccurring instance.

So this issue showed up again. If I clear all the codes, it barely makes it out of the driveway before it shuts off. If I don't clear it, and shut it off for a bit, a CEL remains and runs just fine. Last night I went to go to the store and the CEL was gone and is still gone. My crank-shaft position sensor just arrived but wondering if it is that or a bad TCM.

I am relatively new to Jeep but on other brands it’s known as a “cascading fault.” If you google that term it will give you some insight but - basically - it’s usually a sensor or another part trips one fault which - in turn - trips another and so on.

Correct there is only one fault here and that is the intermittent loss of signal from the crank sensor. That results in the TCM receiving by and redistributing an invalid engine RPM signal, thus setting faults in other modules. The crank isn’t variable to you might as well just swap the sensor out and cross our fingers when this one shows up.

Sorry for the delayed update. I replaced the crank-shaft position sensor, which I was worried was a fix masking another issue (i.e. the Tone wheel issue from the gen 2 showing up in my gen 3). So far no issues and the jerking I would get going up-hill (and I mean anything you could call a hill in southern florida) seems to have disappeared. I need to do some more evaluation but thinking the sensor may have been it, but took forever to throw a cel. The sensor was 110 from Napa vs 450 OEM and took me all of 10 minutes to replace.

I spoke too soon. I went to get some plants with my wife and it started jerking again. AT least this time around she didn't say anything about trading it in on a toyota this go around. I cleared everything and it seems to be back to normal. I really think it is an electrical gremlin. If it was mechanical I think it would be more consistent.

How old are your batteries?
When you get all those warnings, it tend to be the batteries

It is a 2021 with around 52K miles, so it is about 3 years old. I do see that it is usually charging for the autostart/stop, which I really have thought of bypassing. It rarely does the shutdown at a redlight. Still, 3-4 years old for batteries seems short lived but I know things are not made like they used to be. I will check into it.

For the past 10 years, I replace all my car batteries religiously every 3 years. Minor voltage deviations throw these electronics into a tizzy!
My other vehicles are Acuras and BMWs and they flip out. Acura “Christmas tree” will show every code its has!! Insane….
