Odd bracket/brace on Xtreme Recon?

Can anyone tell me the purpose of this big ass rock-catching bracket/brace on the backside of the passenger front wheelwell? I haven’t seen another XR in person, so not sure if this is standard or not. 3.6 etorque. This didn’t exist on my 21 rubicon nor on my wife’s sport altitude.

I think some folks were saying it was welded on so you might have to get creative.
