Hi all. I currently own an OBDLink LX for working on my BMW motorcycle.

I see that the majority of JL owners have the MX+ version.

Is there something that the JL needs that mandates the MX+ version, or will I be ok with the LX?

I use a third party app for the bike. Will I need to download a specific app to connect to the OBDLink to use it with the JL?

Thanks for the assistance :)

Edit: I should probably add I already have a Tazer installed as well.

I use the MX+ version with JSCAN and an ECRI security gateway bypass (https://smile.amazon.com/ECRI-Security-2018-2020-Wrangler-Gladiator/dp/B08DLB6VH6/). With that said, the LX is supported and approved by JSCAN for use (http://jscan.net/supported-and-not-supported-obd-adapters/), so you should be good to go.
I already have a Tazer, which I think is a competitor of JScan? Not sure to be honest. Is JScan hardware or the app portion? Sorry, I'm not familiar with this stuff at all.

If you have a Tazer, you should not need the LX as the Tazer does everything (plus some) that JSCAN does. JSCAN is software that is used with the OBD reader to write to the PCM.

What are you attempting to do?

I also just found an app called OBDLink on the app store. Maybe that's what I need. It's made by the same company as the adapter I have.

I'm attempting to read engine codes and just generally poke around for things other than what I use the Tazer for. I bought that to configure lights, larger tires, etc.

When I read codes on the Tazer, it doesn't give much info. I was hoping the OBDLink LX would give more descriptive code definitions.

Gotcha. The LX will give you that functionality and if memory serves there is a mobile app for it too.
