I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade. I am aware that most people here are pretty enthusiastic about their new JL. I got mine 3 days ago. As mentioned in a previous post, this is my 6th Jeep. I’ve had 1 YJ, 2 TJs and 2 JKUs. I must say I am deeply disappointed with this new model. It no longer feels or sounds like a Jeep. It feels and sounds like a SUV.

I understand that FCA wants to broaden its market as much as possible. The general population has appropriated itself of a vehicle that used to belong to a small fringe. Within that scope, kudos to FCA. But I’m nostalgic for the uniqueness of the sensation of a Jeep, when it felt and sounded more like a truck. As in everything else, I suppose I’ll get used to it. But I doubt there’ll be a 7th.

The Core components are the same, Body on Frame, Solid Axles, etc. If your going based on Sound then thats dumb. Engines are just better performers as the years go on. They run smoother, vibrate less, etc. Even TRUCKS of today sound like cars and SUV's. And they have V8's. Why would you want your jeep to run and feel like shit LOL.

I love the feel and sound of my JL. Of course, I've only had cars prior to this. But I've been in friends' older models and while they certainly had the rougher feel, this JL is better for my aging body and mind.

Take the top and doors off. It won't feel like a new SUV anymore.

Bottom line is new "SUVs" drive like cars. They're silent inside, handle corners well and have more luxury than a Cadillac of 10 years ago. JLs may be a far cry better on road and luxury-wise than they used to be, but they're still focused more on off-road performance. They don't compare to any other comparatively priced SUV in on-road performance and comfort.

Personally, I take the top off and drive it like a Jeep. I trust FCA's word that the electronics won't die if it rains on them.

Seconded. Easy solution. Or remove the muffler, take out several fuses, poke some holes in the roof, etc.

Same. Well I went from an 05 TJ to the 19 JL, but basically the same. Driving it down the road I really like the JL. But.... I do find myself being timid on the trail and I don't know how long it will be until I smoke a cigar in the JL. I used to love commuting in the TJ with the top off, doors off, foot hanging out the door, smoking a cigar after a long day in the office. I took the freedom panels off on my JL once, for maybe an hour, before I put them back on to keep some of the new car smell inside. I have no idea how long it will be until I'm comfortable with "abusing" this Jeep like I did my TJ.

Yeah, I'm the same. I personally find it hard to "abuse" something that I just paid $50K+ on, but once it depreciates a little maybe...

It’s my first Jeep. Always meant to buy one, but never got around to it.
I flat love it, on road and off.
I suggest that you sell yours. I just want you to be happy.

I know exactly what you mean. I learned to drive stick on an old CJ and moved up to the 4-door JL stick from a TJ stick. When I had kids I didn't want a 4-door JK because they looked too refined to me. A Jeep to me was about being casual and free - like a pair of jeans, or sneakers. But I liked the JL - to me something about it calls back to the CJ/TJ. Maybe the way the headlights and grill are designed? (Feel stupid writing that!) So I bought one, because I could. The first thing I noticed was how different the clutch was. It's not the clutch of a Jeep. I missed that connection. And it cost a lot of money! I felt a little weird driving such a nice car. However, once I got the top off and the clutch loosened up and started making it mine, all that faded away. Make it your own like you can really only do in a Jeep. And definitely get those doors and top off. Nostalgia is powerful. I miss my old Jeeps and when I retire, I'll buy one again and restore it. But I'd give your new Jeep a shot and try to make some new memories with it. I am in love with my new jeep now, but still miss the old one. I also miss my old one bedroom apartment in Hoboken and the freedom that came with it too! But times change, and I'm glad I got a Jeep. By the way, your 8th Jeep will probably be electric. HA!

Love our JL but miss some of the rough edges of my 2 CJs. Something about that 2 ft.stickshift mated to that T18 granny low is so primal, lol.

But I love the JL refinement, and being 56 that 8AT is wonderful, I miss the driver involvement of the CJs but the JL is still a blast, and at my age I don't want to feel every rut in the road, and that little V6 has some pop
