Factory antenna cuts out when going under bridges and/or parking in my garage. Feel like a brand new car shouldn't lose signal that easily. I want to get rid of the factory stick anyways and go to a stubby. Does that affect my already suspect reception? Is it stronger? One brand better than the others?

Thanks and sorry for such a basic question.

I replaced my OEM antenna with a 6" stubby and did notice reception got worse (as would be expected). I mostly listen to SiriusXM anyway so not a big deal for me.

Higher quality and longer antenna will potentially improve your reception (all other things being equal)

I usually only listen to SiriusXM and find that I'll drop signal momentarily while driving under and overpass. It definitely cuts out when in a parking garage. I changed to a stubby antenna just for looks, so I don't know how reception is with regular FM radio.

Should have said..the issues with coverage disruption occur when I'm listening to Sirius. Radio seems to always be fine.

Oh! The SiriusXM antenna is on the top of your roll bar, the antenna on the passenger side is just AM/FM. So getting a stubby would have no impact

Yeah, think about it. Sirius is satellite radio coming vertically from overhead. So going into a garage where the signal is blocked would be expected. AM/FM signals are transmitted horizontally from an antenna on the ground so they will have a better chance of reaching your antenna when in a situation of overhead being blocked than a signal from a satellite.

The stock antenna is the perfect length to act as a height gauge to protect your top when going in to a parking garage or a low branch on the trail. AMHIK

SirrusXM is a digital signal. You either get it or you don't. That is why you get cut outs when going under bridges, tunnels, tree covered streets etc.....Wait till summer with trees and leaves....

I'm not sure this warrants anyone visiting a dealership. SiriusXM will lose signal/dropout if it doesn't have a clear connection to the sky. The antenna is mounted on the roll bar and is different than the fender mounted antenna for AM/FM radio. Anything that blocks the satellite signal from reaching the SiriusXM antenna will cause momentary loss of signal which results in dropout. This is 100% normal and does it in other non-Jeep vehicles too. Of course, there are situations where AM/FM reception can be lost as well.
