The configurator on jeep.com is not programmed to be accurate for what can be ordered today. It is programmed as a tool to find what is currently or on order to be in dealer stock somewhere in the country.

So theorettically if you can build it on the configurator, then that Jeep exists somewhere. The stupid part is it will only show you stock up to 250 miles from what ever zip code you enter. So though it may exist, you may have difficulty actually finding it. Would be nice if it would tell you exactly where that one particular build is, even if it is eight states away.
Are you sure you're not referring to the 'find-a-Jeep' tool with the shitty options listed on the left-hand side instead of the full 'build-a-Jeep' configuration tool?

Afaik, the build configurator has always been accurate, albeit a bit behind compared to the most recent dealer order guides, as far as options and pricing is concerned. Iirc, some of the sponsor dealers here actually require you to submit a copy from the build configurator before placing a factory order.

I do agree that the Jeep finder tool should show you everything available across the US and yes, it's terribly inaccurate.

For the last year building a freedom, islander or willys JL if you picked 3.6L and automatic it forced you to take eTorque. Now for the last month if I build a willys with 3.6L ESS and auto it stays.

But if I choose an auto I cant get the garage door opener. ???

Funny I've been seeing Jeep commercials all day saying come on in or order on line. Build it anyway you like or order any option you want, .... as long as its black LOL

You can get the 850RE auto w/ESS or eTorque and the convenience group, just have to toggle it back on after changing engine or transmission options. Not sure why, but the configurator will reset some previous options when others are changed, but as long as adding it back doesn't remove the other again, I believe you're good to go. It's usually engine and transmission changes that cause certain options to be reset, so start with those.

Well would you look at that. The engine and trans combo wouldn't let me do that in the past... I had tried many times. Today was the first time trying the garage door opener. One of my complexes is gated, figured throw it in.

Jeep is constantly tweaking the 4cyl and 6cyl gasoline options trying to match the demand to the engine production capacity.

They have changed back and forth multiple times which engine was "base" vs extra charge, and which engine was paired with eTorque.

I expect this will continue for quite sometime, since they are capacity constrained for the 2.0T.

Yes, the configurator allows it, but in RUBICON trim, whilst trying to order, it can’t be done. The auto tranny can only be the 4 cyl or diesel according to Mark Dodge (in Rubicons).
I was just responding to what you said about the availability on the configurator.

I ordered a Rubicon in January and 3.6 Etorque was required to get the XR package. Fast forward and it’s never yet been built. I ended up buying from inventory a 2.0 Rubicon, and I’m feeling like I got lucky. Love it. Had a 3.6 before, I’m well acquainted with them.

As has been mentioned, Jeep tweaks what’s available, as well as what options are mandatory combinations or exclusions from time to time. This appears to me to be based on what’s available parts wise or most profitable, rather than engineering limitations.

I consider the elimination of the Etorque subsystem a benefit; less complexity, and things to go wrong.

Personally despise the eTorque saves absolutely nothing, I had to have the JLUR trim after years of not having one and the 4cyl 2.0 t has been great on trails and even in-town driving getting 18.6-19.4mpg. Go with the 4cyl 2.0 or ask the diesel guys how their doing just as a comparison. Keep the Jeep wave going.

I tried ordering a JLUR yesterday and was told that the only engine options were the 4cyl or V6 diesel. For some reason, you could still get the V6 non-diesel on Sahara trim, but not Rubicon. Dealer is going to to some research and get back to me.

For a vehicle that I intend to drive for 8-10 years and putting 150k plus miles on (like I have done with my previous 2012 JKU), I don't like the idea of turbos, as they will most definitely need to be replaced, and likely after the 60k mile warranty.

I had no problems with the pentastar in the 2012 and was hoping to just get the latest version of that.

I just checked our ordering and we can only order a 2.0 or Diesel Rubicon.

So why would this only be effecting the Rubicon trim, and since the 2-door can't get the diesel, I'm assuming the 2-door Rubicon isn't effected?

Whole thing seems kinda weird, since the 2.0T is made in Italy and while the 3.6L is mostly made in Mexico, they still have some production capability in Toledo. You'd think the imported engines would be causing the supply issues. The 392, also built in Mexico, has been halted for future MY22 orders afaik.

Imo, get rid of the eTorque and build the Pentastars in the US, which should've been an option all along.

I always start at the bottom of the configurator and work my way up. For example, picking full time 4WD will set your engine and tranny, engine offers 2.0T and 3.6L e-torgue, tranny sets to auto. If you don't want full-time 4WD, then start with tranny, it will prompt you to pick an engine. I can pick the 3.6L e-torque. Then proceed up the configurator.

I know that the jeep website is always behind and not extremely reliable but you still can build a rubi on jeep.com with V6 e-torque and automatic tranny

If they're trying to manage a supply shortage by reducing demand, it's very likely just a matter of demand proportion. We're going to be 20% short on this engine config? Rubicons are 20% of the demand. It's not available in the Rubicon trim.
