New “AppMarket”

Looks like I got a software refresh over the air and a new ”AppMarket” app is on my 24 JLR. (12.3) It appears we’ll be able to add 3rd party apps to our systems. There are a couple “adventure” apps available now as well as games. (Games? Really?) Precious little content now but there are lots of possibilities.

My software version number has not updated: FCA-MY24.U29.44-PROD

If an app developer is reading this…makes us a proper compass. Take the iPhone compass and add the current county. Weirdly, my wife’s Telluride has a compass display, but my Wrangler doesn’t.

I’ve got the same version FCA-MY24.U29.44-PROD.

Found the app market and was very excited for about 10 seconds. Not much content at the moment. I did like the games, it will allow me to pass the time waiting in the parking lot when my wife is shopping. I’m not a good shopping companion, or so I’m told.

It’s a start, can’t wait to see more apps available. Would love to be able to run more iOS through CarPlay.

Interesting ... I just came online to post about this too. I noticed the other day that the App Market icon started appearing to the right side of the time on the header bar. I did not receive a notification that there had been a software update. If I tap it, it takes me to the AppMarket screen and the icon disappears (shows the current SiriusXM channel as it did before the update).

My version was previously FCA-MY24.U27.14-PROD but now it is also updated to U29.44-PROD.

My maps software also shows an updated app version TTNAV.T28.3.3, but still the original old map version date from September 2022.

Correct - we can get cardinal directions on the EVIC as well as the Nav button as you mention. The off road pages will show us our lat/long/altitude. But we currently don't have a way to see more granularly than our cardinal direction, nor do we have one screen with all this data.

Of course, a compass is relic in the GPS era we live in and (if parked) we can grab our phone and see this data too but all the metal in my Jeep will throw off my phone's compass and maybe it's impractical to get out of the vehicle to get an accurate reading.

For all the time Wranglers are spent off road, camping, overlanding, exploring etc., having a single screen that can display all your navigation/location data at once would be useful. Maybe rarely useful. Maybe only a bit of a novelty. But for a Jeep, it seems like not having this is an oversight.

As I mentioned, I'd love to see the county listed which my phone doesn't do. Who is the local sheriff I need to contact in an emergency? Maybe county X has some specific law that affects me (burn ban, severe weather instructions, evacuation order etc). It would be nice to easily see my current county.

New apps would be great, especially if they were useful - I am thinking X for trails, etc. Hell, even an audio book app perhaps?

Another thing I want to know is if they will allow us to change the display order of what apps appear where when active. For instance, in my Android Auto, google maps is on the left and Spotify is on the right. How can I change what shows up on the right? I would love to see a different app there.

I also rec'd the AppMarket download. I tapped the icon to see what it was all about. The games app and the Dyrt app will load, but the rest of them them wig out and keep opening & closing.

Just my opinion, but for me, the AppMarket app is as useless as the Offroad Adventure app that took 10 months to finally show up.

I was suspicious that something had changed because my real time traffic start to work for the first time this year.

Now I get this popup every driving cycle.

Guess I have to call them to op out? I'm tempted to leave it a week because my connected services only work about 2% of the time.

I'm not sure - a little transparency from Jeep would be good about what changes are in the update and then allowing me to select when to install it. As it was it decided to install the moment I started to back up to couple to a trailer, taking out the backup camera as it updated.

Now the connected services have gone back to their default mode (non functional) so the marketing message has not shown for the last couple of days. I also hit 'ok' so either one may have banished the message.

For a couple of days I did notice it showing the heated seat selection upon startup too, but I never tried to work out why.

I guess I can't be bothered trying to work out what the monkeys and typewriters are doing. I just use carplay with google maps when in cell service and gaiagps when off road.

I was just in AZ and Moab and used the Off-road Adventure app and totally liked it…

Mine fully broke. I can’t remove it at all not even after tapping on it. There are errors loading apps.
