New JL Owner

Just purchased a 2020 Sahara. First course of business is new wheels and tires. We are mostly (90%) driving on the road, don't believe we we will be doing much off road driving. The beach maybe since we are in Florida. Current wheels are 18x7..I want to go up to 32-33, and maybe 10.8-11.2 in width..

Question..Should I consider 17" with tires 285/50/17 or stick with the 18's and go with a 285/65/18..

Thoughts on ride and feel between the two sizes...Looking at wheels that are 18x9 or 17x9

Congratulations!
I would get some 17" wheels and 33" tires. I went out and found some new Rubi take-offs for my JLUS. Great for daily driving and I'll bet good for the beach too

Go look in Tires, Wheels and Brakes. That section will have a lot of pictures.

Mine is used mostly on the road and every now and then we drive on the beach. 285 70 17 (33") are a nice tire if you keep your jeep stock.. My wheels are 17 x 8.5 with +12 offset.

If you want the best bang for your buck just check the site for Rubicon or Moab take off wheel/tire sets, even Gladiator take offs come on site sometimes. The wheels aren't any wider and have the same offset as your stock wheels but they fit well on stock JLs and can be had for about $1000 give or take. Most sets have very little miles too so will be in as-new condition.

If you don't like those wheels I'd look for a 17x8.5 w/ an offset in the zero to +25 range, this will keep your tires closer to the fender edge. You can then look for Rubicon tires only on the site, great deals come around often!

I would consider 17" wheels/tires first as there's better selection, prices are usually cheaper, and you get a bit more sidewall.

If you plan to lift your Jeep down the road you may want a little less positive (or even negative) offset to keep your inner tire edge away from your suspension and inner fender under suspension flex.

Here's my fit at the fender w/ 295/70/17s (about 33.3" tall) on 17x8.5 +10 wheels (this was when I was at stock suspension height). I now have a Rubicon suspension swap.

It's worthwhile to check out E-Bay for Jeep Wrangler wheel and tire packages too. That's where I bought my Winter set of wheels/tires at a reasonable price with good service.

17” rims will keep the cost of your shoes more reasonable and offer greater options should you chose to Offroad.
