So I have a MY23 JLUR manual on order right now, and having looked at and read all of the stories of clutch failure, and the recalls on MY clutch's as recent as MY21 (MY22's are obviously not old enough to receive a recall yet....).

My question is this, should I replace the stock clutch with something else, possiblyeven within the first year? I understand this is mostly speculation, as no MY23's are out in the wild yet, but if we work from the assumption that there is no change to the manual clutch/transmission from MY 22 to MY23, should I look into doing it?

Never had a problem with my 2020, I would never spend that kind of money unless there was a problem with it then Jeep could fix it. But that is me. Maybe after a few years might look into it if it doesn't hold up well.

My 2018 has 39,000 miles (that’s 62000 km’s) with no issues. The failure rate is very low so I wouldn’t let that keep you up at night.

No.

My clutch is 4 years old and has never had any issue (37k miles on the clock). Speculation on whether or not it will fail isn't going to do you any good.

Once you get your Jeep, drive it. Break it in, drive it some more, and go from there. If you don't like the clutch or you really want a Centerforce or something for peace of mind, then do it.

For now don't worry about it ?

I have a little over 10,000 miles on my '21 6 MT, which I took delivery of in August of last year. It's been on the beach. It's been on trails in the Rockies. It's been on the highway... All on stock clutch.

I've had no problems with my clutch or transmission, and if I was going to order a Jeep today, it would be with the 6MT.

I have no plans to upgrade, and would probably replace my OEM clutch with another OEM when my original wears out.

Even though some people don't want to hear it... I ❤ my manual transmission.

The odds are you will not have a problem. That said, there is an issue with that clutch so it really depends on how bad you want a MT, your experience/ proficiency driving MT's and whether or not you're willing to accept that small but real increased risk. Of course, the longer you plan to hold onto the Jeep that risk will keep creeping up. Just be aware and pay attention for "any" signs that the clutch isn't happy. In my case, I decided against the MT mainly because my wife and two teenage sons will be driving it on a regular basis, so I opted for the AT (but not without regrets). Given that the AT is now a $3750 upgrade, I might rethink that decision if I was in the market today?

Having a MT when ordering my jeep was my the one thing on my No Compromises List. Had the dealer had a MT on the lot, even a 2 door, I would have seriously considered forging making an order and buying what was on the lot. I love driving manual, I've been doing it for almost every vehicle I have owned except the first one. I've been driving manual exculsively for over a decade. I learned when I was 16, but didn't get good at it until I was about 20.

Getting a MT is a no brainer to me, but dealing with the issue of sudden and catastrophic failure that the clutch has seen, I'm just trying to decide how much I should prioritize replacing the clutch over other stuff I have on my shopping list. Should it be an immediate replacement? Within the first year? A couple years down the line?

Also, I do wanna add, I do plan on hopefully having this vehicle for at least the next 6-7, maybe even 10 years.

You really shouldn’t worry about the factory clutch at all. It just isn’t an issue.
