I knocked my back bumper out of whack on the Rubicon last week with three days of pounding. It's the steel bumper on my 2022 JLUR XR. Now I'm looking for a new bumper. I would like to find a bumper that has a separate gate for the tire and is durable enough to hold up to heavy pounding. Any suggestions?

I have the Road Armor Stealth rear bumper and am happy with it. It has an integrated tire carrier.
JCR is always a good choice, and I was going to go with them but couldn't find one available at the time of my lift.

Just to throw it out there, would you be better served by a low profile/high clearance bumper even if you had to give up the integrated tire carrier?

AEV for the win
AEV does look really good. Any feedback on how strong it is? I though the OEM steel bumper on my Ruby was strong, but it got pretty bent out of shape.

I have never owned the AEV bumper, so that’s an important starting point. But I have read and researched a fair amount, and tracking the opinions and feedback on the AEV bumper since the JK years. I think it is pretty universally admired and understood to be super rugged and strong. The negative opinions I’ve heard have to do with the height of the tire on the carrier and the degree which it blocks whatever remains of the already limited rear view (ie as seen through rear view mirror). I’d also make sure it can accommodate whatever max tire size you hope to carry. But I’ve not heard any criticisms for its strength and durability. Owners will have more valid opinions than mine.

For my money, if I wanted a bumper based tire carrier, I would do AEV every time. GenRight second, but I’m not totally sold on aluminum for rear bumper.

I’m currently running the stock rear steel and teraflex alpha gate and tire carrier. I haven’t been able to beat my rear up yet, the way you have. But I know it happens. Fwiw, a tire carrier like the teraflex, cavfab, and others (non bumper carriers) would open up your bumper options quite a bit. But I don’t think it’s a bad choice either way.

Sounds like it's too late, but MC makes reinforcement brackets for the stock steel rear bumper if that's still an option.
