New 2024 Willys - is this normal?

Toyota sucks as much as the rest of them. Can do this all day:

Feb. 1 recall: RAV4 Prime
Toyota recalled certain 2021 RAV4 Prime Plug-In Hybrid vehicles due to the risk of the hybrid system shutting down and stalling while driving in EV Mode in cold weather conditions if the accelerator is rapidly pressed.

Potential number of units affected: 16,679

March 2 recall: 2022-2023 Tundra
On March 2, Toyota issued a recall for some 2022-2023 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles that have a Toyota genuine accessory tonneau cover. NHTSA said the cover may detach if the tonneau cover attachment joints become loose.

Potential number of units affected: 130,266

May 29 recall: 2022-2023 Corolla Cross
Toyota recalled 2022-2023 Corolla Cross vehicles due to a manufacturing defect in the instrument panel. Improper deployment of the front-passenger airbag violates safety regulations.

Potential number of units affected: 96,007

June 14 recall: 2023 Camry
Toyota issued a recall on June 14 for certain models of the 2023 Camry and Camry Hybrid. The lug nuts that connect the wheels to the vehicle may not have been tightened properly, which can result in the wheels detaching.

Potential Number of Units Affected: 91,442


July 12 recall: several vehicles
Toyota has recalled several 2023 models, including Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, and Tacoma, as well as 2023 Lexus RX350, RX350 Hybrid, RX500 Hybrid, and 2023-2024 Lexus NX250, NX350, and NX350 Hybrid vehicles due to an issue with the electrical connection inside the steering column's spiral cable assembly. NHTSA said this may have caused the driver's airbag to deactivate.

Potential Number of Units Affected: 152,927

Didnt Toyota also Just recall 338,000 trucks for faulty breaks?

I guess I got a good one, LOL! I also have my little beater 2002 Civic with 278k on it that i bought brand new and has the original clutch after driving Tampa rush hour for 16 years and is living it's retirement out here in Melbourne.

I bought my Jeep knowing the quality reputation of Jeep which isn't that great.

I will likely take this route, but ALL of the dealers around me have 1 star reviews with horror stories about service. The one dealer that has average reviews won't work on it because I didn't buy it there. And let's face it, they're not going to assign their top tech to do this level of warranty work. I just don't want it to blow up into a situation that's worse than what I have now.



I drove for 10 hours in pouring rain and wind bringing it home from MD to MA. I did notice a few remnants of dried rain along the inside near the back. It's plausible it came in at that spot.

I don't know where you are in MA, but Central Jeep/Norwood service dept. is excellent.

Thanks - that's good to know. Norwood is an hour drive. If it was a one time trip, i would have no problem going there, but this is going to be at least two trips. Do you know if they do loaners?

Yes. The main difference is that I'm in Florida where it was 75* today and you're up north where it was probably 40-50*? Butyl gets much softer when it's warm and will actually ooze a little when it gets to a certain point. It also skins over a bit eventually.

You might want to try and pinch a little off the top, or "cut" it with a plastic putty knife or credit card so that you can pull a small amount off. If you smoosh it against the paint, it will likely sometimes stick pretty good and flatten out, leaving a very thin layer that is tough to roll off with your finger. That's where the paper towel/soap will come in. The soap will kill it's adhesiveness, so I would recommend not using that on it until the rubber weatherstripping is flattened down to your liking and only using the soap on the bit that you're cleaning off.

It sounds complicated and all, but it's really not. I've worked with this stuff quite a bit in many different types of jobs and it's great for sealing things up, but it can be a little messy.

My wife's Mercedes dealership drives one to us to swap out vehicles, which is also unexpected.

All of my experiences with Central Jeep - from purchase to recall, oil change service, to add-ons with their "Just For Jeeps" custom division - has been very good. I read all the horror stories of poor service in this forum and find it crazy that exists as Central has been very good - I guess I have been lucky! By the way even my Independant service facility here on the Cape that services all of our vehicles provides me a loaner when needed.
