I’m looking to get a new wheel with a simulated beadlock that I can paint or wrap or powder coat or whatever. The only issue is that I can’t tell when I search around for simulated beadlocks which ones actually pop off the wheel for easy painting. I see some of them, like the Dirty Life wheels, but then it doesn’t seem like that’s actually simulated but rather functional.

I don’t even really know what a beadlock is, but I have no functional use for it, and I’ve heard it make tire rotation etc a pain. Also it costs a lot more for the function and I don’t even want/need it.

Or has anyone just wrapped or painted one that didn’t pop off? The guy at my local Jeep parts shop is whining at the one I chose online that isn’t removable, saying it will be difficult and won’t look good since there are no actual beads to pop off and paint around

Consider the Mopar Simulated Beadlock wheel.

Is that completely simulated and the ring pops off?
Yes. (You can actually purchase real Beadlock rings for the wheels and swap them, which I absolutely would not suggest for your use case.)

I have the Vision Nemesis wheels. They include a removable polymer ring (attach to wheel with included bolts). These give the wheels a beadlock look, without the beadlock hassle or benefits. I painted mine to match the Jeep.

To paint, scuff the rings with a scotch bright sanding pad and clean with soap and water. De-grease the rings with denatured alcohol. Apply several coats of primer and then paint. Add several layers of clear coat if desired. I posted a thread on the forum about this several years ago.

Additionally, the Nemesis wheels are lightweight (29lbs) and have held up very well to rock crawling. They balance well and I've had no issues with them.

The removable ring can get chewed up some, but you can sand them down and re-paint easily. Short of getting rubbed off by rocks or curbs, paint adheres to them very well. As you can see in my picture, there are areas where the paint has been scraped away due to rocks. The benefit with a polymer ring (versus steel) is there is no rust to worry about.

The Vision Nemesis wheels are one of the more economical options and I bought mine from Discount Tire.

What color do you want to paint the rings?
