Need help quick if possible cooling/antifreeze issue

I’m headed across the country … about 4 hours from Moab. Going through Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado my motor overheated….or was up to about 270…as soon as I got out I pulled over and shut it down….let it cool and found a place for the night. Jeep ran well all the way and everything cooled down and stayed around 180.

I had antifreeze pissing out the reservoir at the bottom…I’m a little concerned something split but I’m guessing it was just coming out an overflow?

When I got to where I am I looked and my antifreeze is low…below the minimum mark. So I need more.

getting mixed reviews….I’ve read mixing antifreeze and I screw my cooling system….I want to get the right stuff…

we’re supposed to be leaving early…autozone will be open…is there an aftermarket/autozone brand I can get that will work????

If there’s any doubt, straight water would be best. Especially if you’ve got a leak that needs to be fixed.

Also, if you have an autozone, you may have a mopar dealer near you

Just use water. Water has a higher thermal transfer rate than antifreeze. It may help a little if things are running marginally hot. If it's leaking, no sense putting in antifreeze.

In order of preference:

1. distilled water
2. purified drinking water, (bottled water)
3. tap water

What's the prognosis? Did you make it to Moab or are you stuck at a dealership/shop getting fixed?

Yeah you need to top up, but if it's above "min" on the reservoir when cold, you're still technically OK to drive unless the engine is still overheating under way.

Do you know why you overheated?

Sorry guys…..I made it to Moab…I found an alt and topped it off…it’s running well…did my first trail today…life is sooooo good! Lol

Honestly the rig runs cooler in Moab than it did on the whole trip out here…so far no issues!
