I was 50 when I did it. It really is simpler than a lot of people make it look. A good spotter goes a long ways!!
If you don't have a spotter......Just keep the hood level and go slow. I good spotter will help you not flip over.

The spot where this guy gets in trouble I believe is the spot you're referring to when you say your line was sub optimal near the top, where you lifted your front passenger tire a little. In that spot you want to be more on the passenger wall. You can see in this video the spotter is telling him to turn to passenger. The driver either couldn't see the spotter, or wasn't paying attention.

That's actually a gal. I believe her name is Tracy and she had DRIVEN the TJ from FL. (I'm pretty sure that's the video. This was on a www.jeepsunlimited.com run circa 2000-2001 or so)

Lots of things to learn from that video. For EJS runs we usually have about 20ish of our 40-45 folks give Hells Gate a shot.

I thought the video was amazing! I've never done anything remotely close to that. I was wondering though, do you think a front camera would've been useful in that situation? Would it have allowed you to remain seated? Just wondering. The only situation I get to use mine is scoping ruts in the sand on the beach. ?

I find the front camera not nearly has helpful as I thought it would be. It is generally not good for identifying lines when rock crawling. I have to get out and survey if I don't have a spotter.

HOWEVER, where the front camera really shines is on the slick rock going up steep climbs when all you see through the windshield is the sky. I had a spotter on Hell's Gate so I wasn't really paying attention to my front camera. But having done Hell's Gate once I think I could get by with the front camera.
