Could you help explain why my mileage cratered?

I need to start from the beginning: I bought my 2022 JL Wrangler new and drove it home the first week of February 2022.
Until 13,500 miles I always got 27mpg around town and 29mpg if I got on I-81. The mileage never deviated.

The dealership is Shelor Motor Mile Jeep in Gaithersburg, VA (southwest VA), I have no problem with the dealership, the sales and service department seem fine.
On 25 August 2023 with 13,788 miles it was repaired. I had Code P06EB Nox sensor and P2002-00 diesel particulate sensor below operating specs.
Both replaced under warranty.
For 200 miles before the repair my milage started to fall, about 2mpg less.

Then 2 weeks later my check engine light came on again. It took 2 weeks to get into the dealership.
They had the Jeep for 38 days waiting for the part during the auto strike. Mileage 14,590.
They replaced the diesel particulate filter and replaced the dosing injector and it said in the notes the original was damaged by the technician during install.

Now I have my Jeep back and I've driven 400 miles. I'm getting 22.5mpg in town and 23.5mpg on I-81. About 1/3rd drop.

I've performed two oil changes with factory parts I purchased at Shelor parts counter. Also an engine air filter and cabin air filter and also replaced the fuel filter.
All OEM parts. Mileage never went up or down with this work.

All varibles are the same. Same 2 gas stations for fill up. Same driving conditions. Same house and location.

As I understand it, the DPF helps clean the exhaust before discharge into the environment.
The sensor in front of the DPF, is that a "plug-n-play" part? Or, is it calibrated once installed and that could be my issue?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any knowledge or suggestions before I return to the dealership?

My motive is to try and get back to 27-29mpg and then move on with my life.

Thanks for reading the above and sharing any insight into what this may be.

FWIW that's insanely high MPG for a Wrangler and your new numbers are much more realistic.

no upgrades Tires, Wheel, steel bumpers, etc? Do you use any injector cleaner, that would be the 1st easiest and quickest chance of a solution. I'm getting 25.6 combined and 27.8 on highway (35s wheels and steel bumpers).

Sounds a bit like the old mileages that I used to hear about before an ECU update to resolve lack of emissions compliance. Mine has never gotten that good a mileage.

For a diesel, the first numbers are absolutely normal. Drove my JLURD to and from Texas from San Diego and over 3k averaged somewhere in the 27-29 range

As far as mpg I get 25-26 around town..
I wonder if your DPF is not regenerating more than normal. Regeneration uses diesel fuel. do you have a scanner that you can monitor regenerations?

I’m quite certain you’re onto something, as diesel is indeed blended differently beginning in November in more ”milder” climates the OP is in.

Additionally…..if the OP is remote starting and / or idling much more since the weather has turned cooler, that will also negatively affect MPG’s.

what I have noticed after the fuel pump recall install. My full tank used to have about 387 to empty. And ever since getting i back it’s been 330-340. Just throwing this out there.
my daily mpg has meats been 23-26 mpg
It’s normal

Good question. = No modifications/upgrades.
The trip to the dealership for the DPF and sensor were only "change" to vehicle.
My son, who is a middle aged man, bought an EcoDiesel shortly after driving mine.
The one difference between his and mine and he has a soft top. His mileage is also 27-29.

That makes sense to me with regeneration. Thanks
