The carpet cutouts are already there. You basically just get them out. See my pics.

This doesn't answer your question directly, but it might work for you.

I have the "from the factory" Mopar floor mats ... all the fancy ridges, but no red lettering. Removed the carpet piece and stuck a second set of drain pan plugs into the floor ... that guarantees that no water leaks up into the carpeting. Then I cut off about half the drain "tube" and inserted the original drain plugs back into the floor mat. When it's clean up time, I pull the floor mats and hose them down. After running a vacuum around on the carpet, the mats are then reinstalled.

My wife likes this arrangement 'cuz she's an OCD neatness freak! While I'm airing up at the end of a trail, she pulls the floor mats and the drain plug in the floor pan. Then she sweeps all the little rocks out through the hole in the floor.

Fantastic, thanks for the update. Can you share a pic of your set up when you get a chance? I may do the same thing.

Sure, no problem. I tried to use the "tube" in the floor mats first, so had already cut out the carpet plug. If you wanted to keep the carpet plug in place, it might still work by cutting the tunnel even with the bottom of the plug.

Original plug installed in the floor pan with the carpet plug cut out:

The bottom side of the floor mat (second plug installed) showing the "tube" cut short. I used the handle on a pin punch as a guide to maintain a constant cut height. Used a break blade knife to make the cut ... several passes to achieve the final cut through.

Good luck ...

Since you have the Mopar floor mats, you might be interested in this: The "from the factory" ones are a little dull with a slightly rough surface. Even after cleaning them, they look a little dusty and dirty. I was applying Aerospace 303 to my unpainted fenders and spotted the floor mats off to the side drying out. Thought what the heck, they're only floor mats ... so, they received a coating of Areospace 303 also. Yesterday, while I was airing up the tires, my wife shook the dirt and pebbles off the mats and wiped them down with a damp cloth. They looked great ... better than after a power washing. I'm sold ...

Good call on this method. I'm hearing that the mat tube does not seal well to the floor opening. Allows water (salt and brine in my case) into the floor. I did the same : factory plug in the floor, then cut the mat tube, adding another plug.
